Hi All,

Im new to the forum, currently in the market for a 2005 Stivo. I tested two 2005 Stivos and felt the lift performance varied.

I made sure the engines had at least 5-7 mins of warm up before lift testing.

The 1st Car (127000kms on odo)- the lift kicked around 6000rpm. I felt the "lift".

The 2nd Car (62000kms on odo, but has no service records) - lift kicked in at 6200rpm, the sudden "lift" power performance was more subtle compared to the 1st car tested. Although the engine sounded healthy and tight, clutch was light, gearbox shifting was sweet. Im concern the lift performance of this car. Can it be because of using fuel ron 95 vs 98? Hotter day (30c)? if not, does this mean the 'lift' is dying?

Thanks in advance.

I dont think lift can "die" so to speak...

u may need to take into consideration possible mods or temp of the day, oil temp and pressure when u kicked into lift.

could be the type of engine oil he's using etc.

The other thing always worth considering is km's don't represent the way a car has been treated and maintained, sure the lower they are the more appealing it is but it's not always the way to buy a car , especially something like a Sportivo.

Cypher & EvilTwin,

I noticed the last time it was 'officially' serviced at 20000kms, now it has 62000kms, wouldnt the engine pretty much gone case by now?

Perhaps sludge in engine resulting low oil pressure, hence lift performance was subtle? Then again, a mechanic & I tested the engine (by feeling, not compression test etc) both find the engine solid, revs pretty smoothly. Weather was about 31 or 32C. I know the car was running on ron 95.

EvilTwin- You r right, this car is defnitely been neglected, faded both VVTi-L decals, disintegrate "Sportivo" label, all 4 bodykits are pretty lose, no tear on leatherseats but some parts were dried out, paintwork still ok.

Seller is a Toyota Dealer from country, the car was a fleet car (from Melbourne), No previous owner records, it has log book but servicing records never been stamped ever. I noticed the next service reminder sticker on windscreen (next oil service: 30000kms, 30/3/2008). The Toyota Dealer willing to change all fluids at their expense(engine oil, gear oil, brake fluid, power steering, clutch oil and coolant, brake pads if needs to). Deal is so tempting at $14K if he is willing to tighten the 4 bodykits as well.

cheers,

Bjaws

it might be a good idea to ask the owner of they car if they do service the car because some people like myself i would prefer to do a service on my car rather than a mechanic some people just refer to do it them self..... i doubt that they wouldnt have serviced a car for 40000 km might just be a good idea to ask them. Where abouts your from if you live in sydney a friend of mine might be selling a sportivo in the comming weeks and its been lookd after.

FYI- lift kicks in at 6,200.

The first car was early

I thought it was 6000? Hmm i'll have to check tomorrow.

My car kicks in at 6000rpm and I had it checked today there is no fault codes or anything wrong with it so I dont know what it should be 6000 or 6200 to make the car good performance wise cause through all the gears my car kicks in at 6000

Yes. If the ECU detects knock it will retard timing to protect the engine. Less timing is less power.

A hotter day will yeild less power also. The heavier the car the more lacking lift can feel, so if you are 2 up, or a full tank of fuel compared to empty can give the sensation of less power. But I'm banking on the ECU pulling timing as the cause.

Lift either works or it doesn't. There is no middle ground with it as it is like a switch. The solenoid allows oil pressure to engage the lock pins in the rockers. Lift bolts breakign on the 2zz isn't an issue on the Sportivo engines (assuming it hasn't been replaced) as this was rectified in the 03/2003 engine update.
