I've just (yesterday) purchased myself an '01 Hilux Workmate. While it's such a great, practical vehicle all round, the thing that strikes me immediately is how vulnerable it is to break-ins.

The vehicle has obviously already been broken into at least once. The key for the door is different than the ignition, and there are scratches on the inner door lock.

I'd like to know what options there are available for security for this vehicle. I'm assuming I can get an engine immobilizer for it, and probably not much else. How about an alarm for window breakage or door opening? Central locking??? Highly doubtful.

Apart from your basic security options like a car alarm with an ultra-sonic/microwave window breakage sensor, there isn't much more you can use as a deterent. Remember, alarms and locks only really stop honest people. If you have something inside they want to get, they can still quiclky smash their way in then run. It also comes down to the public in general. Nowadays, people mind their own business a little too much and would simpley watch as someone breaks into your car.
