Fluctuating Idle AFTER ECU Reset

Hey guys, as the topic states, i had cleaned my Pod Filter last night and reconnected everything back up, reset the ECU in the process... but the idle on my car is consistently up and down about 2k rpm Massive fluctuations... I am calling for the Corolla Gurus to help me with this problem.

I have already searched for what it could be, but unsure if it will balance itself out, or have I possibly damaged something?

Even, is your supercharger bypass valve open properly when idling after you reset your ECU? If not, your ECU may be having a fun time trying to balance itself out while the engine is under boost.

Hmmm, didn't think of the Bypass Valve could be affecting it... how can I check this?

Without photos to show you, I'll explain the best I can.

Observe how the valve and the levers attached to it looks when the car is off. Then start the car and observe if it changes it's position. If it does, then chances are it is okay and there is no need to worry about that (hopefully). If it doesn't change it's position between off and idle... then something is definitely not going good there. Another thing is you can disconnect the vacuum line to it while it is idling and see if it makes any change.

Checked out the actuator and it is working in perfect condition, the whole car is still fluctuating in idle...

Reading up on 9th Gen, it could be the TPS that's causing the problem...

1st question, what ECU?

2nd question, what did you disconnect/remove/reconnect?

If you took the MAF out and the o-ring got pinched going back in the leak could cause some running problems.

If you didn't take the TPS off the throttle body I doubt it would be related.

when you changed the throttle body, did you swap over the TPS and ISCV from the old one?

Did the rubber gasket stay in place on the manifold when bolting up the new throttle body?

If there's a vac leak at the throttle body you will end up with a bouncing idle as described. This is because the vac leak causes an increased idle that can go up and hit the "fuel cut rpm" while the throttle plate is shut.

Yes

If there's a vac leak at the throttle body you will end up with a bouncing idle as described. This is because the vac leak causes an increased idle that can go up and hit the "fuel cut rpm" while the throttle plate is shut.

I must have a vac leak somewhere then... :(

Sick of trying to figure out what its doing, so I am going to get Paul to have a look at it for me next week...

FYI,

here is what its doing:

* At idle it is changing revs from 2300 down to 1500ish then back up again.

* Same as above for neutral.

* driving is sluggish, foot on the gas has a short delay

* take foot off gas, takes a sec or 2 to start slowing down (no instant response)

So could this be a case of the MAF sensor? how sensitive is it?

What are signs of damaged valves? could this be a possibility?

I will need to limit the amount of driving I do.

why did you replace the throttle body?

I'd be looking at the throttle body, the hoses it connects to and the intake manifold.

Is the throttle plate completely shut with no pressure on the accel pedal?

Good news everyone,

got my mate's dad to inspect my car and he was able to find the problem... since i had already arranged a service.

Seems a couple of the manifold bolts were a little bit loose, so after he had tightened them, she was running smooth again :D

no more fluctuating idle, and no more vacuum leak :D

so if anyone has this same problem, check all bolts, clamps etc.

      It's possible that it could be something fouling or dirt build up, dry, or a broken mechanism, so have a look and give the mechanism some lubrication, most likely though, it'll be the actuator.       Query about the correct rotors for 2006 ACV40 Camry.

      Hi, I'm looking at a set of front rotors for an ACV40 2006, 2.4L Camry. I got a good price on some RDA's at Sparesbox. However both RDA8112 and RDA7686 show as for my car and I'm wondering what the difference is and if there were changes to the rotors during the model production.       Your solution is akin to suggesting that switching to a different car manufacturer would resolve the issue. However, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm for using an iPhone as you do.

      Turboed Corolla Overbuilt?

      that engine will be fine, the rods are the main thing to be concerned about. The 2860 is a decent turbo for the 1zz but in this day and age I'd go for a G25-550. The injectors might be on the small side, we run DW1000's. You need a full length injector, the shorter injectors with adaptors like ID1050x dont fit the 1zz head. You don't need an aftermarket intake manifold, if you do go down that path, avoid the CNC innovations unit, it's garbage. Do the boost control with a MAC valve and control it with the aftermarket ECU of your choice, I use Link stuff on most of my builds with the G4x Storm as the minimum. I also wire a fuel pressure sensor and oil pressure sensor to the ECU in my installs. Use a decent intercooler, the better cores (ARE, PWR, Garrett, Vibrant, Plazmaman, Hypertune) work a lot better than the chinese stuff like Aeroflow. a 450x250-300 fits fairly well with custom end tanks to route the cooler pipes through next to the radiator Don't forget about the clutch and gearbox. These days I like the Uniclutch twinplate, Above 300whp you'll want to think about upgrading the 3rd and 4th gears in the box also with the SSC (Hollinger) gear set and install an LSD of your choice. If you're going to give it a hard time, you'll also want an oil cooler. I like the HKS thermostat type sandwich plates and setrab or mocal oil coolers with -10 speedflow fittings/lines (Chinese AN fittings neck down to a lot smaller internal diameter in their bends, not great for flow) You'll also want to think about brakes, Celica or Sportivo front calipers will bolt on with sportivo discs as a starting point. To have somewhere like Tunehouse do the work you'll want to budget somewhere between 20-40K

      I did the mathematics myself regarding costs vs benefits for fuel injector cleaner. I have changed from 91ULP to 95PULP and 98PULP. Price difference can be about 13 -20 cents. Compared to 91ULP, Premium quality fuel should have a better quality additive package designed to have superior engine cleaning capabilities so the engine can perform at their best.

      "Fuel injector cleaner is a waste of money" Only if you by the cheap crap if you use LiquMolly a German Product it does work and you won't waste your Money.
