Can it be done? Can I (or an auto-elec. for a reasonalble price) change these stupid fkn HID headlamps back to normal H4 type bulbs? I could swap the headlamp assembly over for non HID i suspect but the wiring would require attention.

I like the HID effect, but the buls are fkn ridiculously expensive, and I just priced a replacement ballast from Toyota @ $387.00.

This morning I walk out to the car as its warming up and the passenger side is out. I say fk!

i turn the lights off... wait a sec and turn them back on, both sides light up... not 30 seconds later the passenger side if off again.

I repeated that once again to make sure I wasn't crazy.

So its not the bulb... it must be the ballast. right?!

Standard lights are simple... they work. When they dont, blown bulb > replace > they work again.

........also getting rid of car based on the headlight replacement costs is a bit strong don't you think?

Don't get anything German, you'll be up for double the cost at least.

mate i've just had 2 hid bulbs blow in 3months not happy, bought replacements from germany, one has blown since, speaking to a guy in USA, toshiba have now replaced the philips, so he says, so looking to order 2, for around $60 in total, this is the response from ebay

Hello there! These are direct replacements. Toyota switched to Harison-Toshiba D4S bulbs in around 2007. Since then the Philips bulbs have been phased out.

Serge @ GenuineXenon

hope that helps and yes i agree, these bulbs suck!
