Hey guys,

word of warning - if u are thinking of installing a short shifter please do urself a favour and spend the money on a proper kit... i bought the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130522769934&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

the description was accurate to the point where u got what u paid for - however fitting it took approximately 4 hrs and severe modifications to make it happen...

- Ball joints on shifter too big for original bushes

- No correct bushes provided in kit, nor sold anywhere

- No instructions on how to install. Despite recommending that a professional install the kit, I don't think a professional would be able to persevere with this crap!

- Bushes needed heavy modification to make fit, i.e. drilling out to accommodate larger ball joints

- Shifter is very stiff, much like you would expect to get in a high price exotic tuned for track use - not viable for every day driving or if you want to avoid looking like u rub one out 40 times a day with ur left hand... full half "Pop-eye" action there...

- Bolts in kit are 12mm and not 8mm as per pre-drilled / threaded holes... original bolts cannot be used as they are not long enough to go thru the spacers that lift the shifter housing... You WILL have to buy longer bolts... luckily my mate that helped me had 2 lying around which was enough to get me sorted to get from A - B until I have time to go and buy more...

My advice - not worth the hassle!!!! Spend the money on a TJM or GFB short shifter kit and be done with it!

Well that is slightly annoying. I'll make it my next project to make it fit. I have a massive workshop at school. So I have all neccesary parts to make it work.

maybe they are designed for the american version of the ae1xx corolla?

Posted

american version is no different - i'd dare say its designed for the AE82 - AE93 and they just "assumed" it would fit...

Branno - unless u plan on taking ur car into said workshop and modifying where the selector cable and bottom housing mount fits into the transmission tunnel then all I can say is good luck...

Can you take a photo of your whole thing stew. I want to compare. And they have falsely advertised, isn't there a law against that *****?

An AE101 shift lever fits just fine in an AE82 or AE92 cradle, as does an AE111 lever. It's not that hard to modify the stock shifter lever to be a real short throw shifter if you have a workshop at your disposal.

Posted

1) Remove stock shift lever from bracket

2) Place lever in vice

3) Heat pivot ball with oxy torch etc

4) Bash pivot ball further up shaft

5) ...

6) Profit

actually i stand corrected - the short shifter kit is fine...

its my shifter housing that's ain't right...

got a mate to go to the wreckers to buy a replacement so I could put the stock one back in, and he checked out an a 101, and a couple of pre facelift and post facelift 112's and they all had the same set up which was completely different to mine... so i'm upgrading...

i just don't understand why mine would be different when every other one i've looked at since has been the same as each other and completely different to mine...

would it be possible to retrofit a AE93 shifter housing and shifter in there? because thats the only thing i can think of... either that or i've bought a chinese AE100 model... but i don't see that happening as AU spec corollas were literally made in Australia...

any ideas anyone?

I believe AE101 Levin/Trueno shifter housings are different from the ADM AE101/102 ones....fairly sure the AE9x ones are metal too instead of plastic.

well someone has either retrofitted a levin / trueno shifter into this car, or made a hybrid from the AE93 shifter and something else because it was half metal, half plastic, and effing weird...
