Burnt smell in engine bay (or thereabouts)

Just two days ago when the engin eis warmed up i smell a sort of burnt smell coming from the engine, especially in the right wheel area. It doesn't smell like oil, but more like electrical burning. to confirm this i checked for any oil leaks, but there's none. It's starting to worry me now. Any suggestions on what it may be?

If you notice it again, it would be worth having a quick look over the wires you have access to, starting with high current ones first - headlamps, alternator, radiator fan, etc.

Well my car's still under warranty, and I'm smelling it everytime i drive now. Might have a look at the wires once it's on a hoist or bring it to the dealer when i have my service next month.

If it seems to be getting worse, you really ought to get it looked at ASAP. If it's a short somewhere, it's just a matter of time before it starts a fire. If that happens, I guess it would be rather amusing for people driving by looking at your car going up in flames on the side of the road while you dance around madly, desperately trying to put the flames out with a wet napkin. dry.gif

Seriously though, Dude. I can't believe you'd even consider delaying something like this being looked at. It's not exactly a worn windscreen rubber insert which you can delay getting checked out.

If I were in your shoes, I'd have taken it to the dealers/auto sparkie/mechanics as soon as I smelt the burnt smell, get it fixed, THEN write about it on the forum later.

I was a little unthoughtful when i siad i will delay it til next month. Problem is i'm way too busy atm. Probably make an effort to do it in a few days if my work settles down.

Reminds of the time my AE82 4AGE caught fire on President Avenue, Kogarah in Sydney in peak hour! Pulled over when the smoke was coming out the bonnet, it was the oil cooler hose split and spraying oil on the exhaust manifold and on fire!! Lucky for me I stopped in front of a house that had a hose laying in the front yard.. that was a close one! Would have lost the car if that hose hadn't been there.
