Hey people, im new here as my girlfriend just bought a 95 corolla CSX with the 1.8ltr 7A-FE engine.

The reason im posting is this -

When we bought the car it didnt come with the booklet describing which oil type etc to use for the car, and i have searched around (even though you cant use 3 letter words in this websites search) and havnt been able to find anything.

So for all you out there with the same engine as my girlfriends, can you give us a hand.

Also it would be great if you could tell us what oil filter you use also.

I have gone into Supercheap and looked in their magazines near the oil for the recommended oil, but I also looked for my Pulsar with the SR20 just to see what it would say and it stated a differant type than is actually recommended therefor im not trusting it to tell me the truth for the corolla either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Castrol Website

or Shell

or BP

or Caltex

It's really up to your own preference for brand or how much you want to spend.

What is really important is to change it at least every 6 months/10,000km

Yeah im after more specifics like what Darkeh has given. such as how think it is, 20w40 etc. My pulsar runs on 5w30, and thats what it recommends in the booklet. The magazine at supercheap states the corolla as needing 20w40 so if thats what it say's in the corolla booklet then im set.

Im also after the filter type. I think its Z07 but if someone wants to have a quick look under their bonnet that would be good.

had a look under bonnet of mums rolla and checked with dad.

in both our 7afe's 1999 rolla which we no longer have

and a 1993 rolla

we ran 20-40

tried to look at the oil filter for you but its under the exhaust manifold in the 7a's so i'm not sure :( best idea would be to call toyota and just ask them the part details

Thanks a lot Darkeh, i might just get the filter that is specified in the store...

In Great Britain we find 10W 40 is best with petrol engined Toyotas (non Turbo versions) from the 1980's and '90s.

However Rolla Boy is quite right, when an engine gets a little old/tired/ high millage then a change to 20w50 might be advisable.

We use Magnatec for all the VVTi engines and anything in good condition... If it looks old or tired, I'll get some GTX2 for it instead... Don't wanna risk oil leaks or anything, then I would have customers on my back...
