83 2wd Hilux 5 speed conversion

G'day all,

I have an 83 Hilux RN41.

These utes came out with an 18R but at some stage someone has dropped a 3Y into mine.

It also has a 3 speed auto which looks like it has been converted to floor shift from column shift.

I have a 5 speed manual box from a later model 3Y powered Hilux on order.

I have read online that the 5 speed is a longer box and that the gearbox crossmember will need to be moved.

With the 3Y in it I'm not sure what mods have already been done.

Once I get the engine and gearbox out how do I tell what mods will be necessary?

I'm expecting the new gearbox to arrive in about a month and would like to have any mods finished by then so I can drop it in.

Also I'll need measurements to take to the fabricator so I dont need to transport the engine and gearbox to them as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

      Problem unlocking '01 SXV20

      G'day all, So I've just brought this car and foolishly forgot to check the locking system. First time I went to lock it only the driver's side door locked and wouldn't unlock, the other doors didn't lock. Replaced some fuses and the next time the central locking was back online. It locked all the doors and now I'm locked out. Any help with this is appreciated. It's looking like it could be a pretty expensive fix. Any advice about how to get back in would be helpful (I'm guessing coat hanger job isn't an option). I suspect ultimately the barrel may need to be replaced as it's just been warn down or possibly been jammed or some such. Thanks. PS. I've only got the one regular key, no electronic button "fob" key. Also the driver's door is only one with a key hole.

      1GD-FTV Diesel Fuel Filter

      Bought a spare Filter from Toyota yesterday, to carry and use if needed somewhere away from civilization. Toyota Part # 23390 0L070. Cost $73.82 Price is ridiculous. Fuel filter for my 200 only cost $38 each. Anyone know Part Number for equivalent Ryco or another brand?

      75 Series Glow Plug Query

      Good morning Trying to work out how to buy correct glow plugs for my 75 series with 1 HZ diesel engine. It has a manufacture date of 04/98. Repco online product selector points me to one NGK product but lists another from 05/98 onwards. Other online sellers have same product from 1997 onwards, and others don't differentiate. (eg Sueprcheap with Bosch glow plugs) I'm in VIC and have a few frosty mornings each year. Any recommendations for glow plugs please? And were there actually modifications to the 1HZ from 05/98 onwards that mean a different glow plug is required? Regards Pete

      Rear passenger on the right side doesn't lock

      Hello everyone.       Brand new Prado 2022 with intermittent engine/transmission stutter

      I have a 2023 Toyota Prado VX, got a toyota genuine alloy bullbar fitted and 30,000km logbook service done at the same time on 05/05/2025. Since I got the vehicle back I can feel some vibration through the floor especially from the footrest while 1500~1600 rpm. It is not extremely bad but can be felt. Bring back to Toyota Dealer and the technician can feel that too but as a result no fault found. Anyone has any update yet regarding 1500 rpm rattling & vibration ?
