Anyone know a good mechanic in North Brisbane?

I took my car in for a service the other day. The mechanic I went to for the service before that (a different one) said the car didn't have any problems and since the car had been running well since then, I didn't think there'd be too much wrong with it this time............

Needless to say, I went to the mechanic after they finished and they had a big list of problems with the car. I've got more than enough money to pay them, but since there's a fair amount of money involved, I feel like I should get a second opinion.

The place I went to is a reputable garage, so they probably aren't trying to rip me off. Still, it would give me peace of mind knowing for certain that i'm not being ripped off (and if I am being ripped off, at least I'll know never to go back there again).

With that in mind, anyone know a good place where I can get the car looked at.

They said the timing belt, front bushes and rear bushes all need replacing.

The invoice also says the bearing plates are cracking, the lifters are noisy and the engine is leaking oil. It also mentions a "fuel injection service".

The rest of the stuff I can do myself.

All in all, it sounds like it's going to be expensive.

Anyone know a good place that will do engine cleaning. It's not a difficult job, but I don't think the body corporate would be happy to see oil and degreaser all over the road. Plus, the underside of the engine is filthy and I don't have any jackstands to hold the car up, so it would be a pain in the *** to get underneath and clean it properly.

The mechanic couldn't even find the leak because there was so much oil underneath :(

bearing plate eh? never heard of one of those...

I think it's something to do with the struts.

perhaps another name for the the strut top... but an odd one.

      I have three remotes for my car but only one works

      Hey so to start with this video is useful I know you may have done all this etc but the key part is that he puts the remote fob near the right hand side of the wheel he is putting it close to the dash as that is where the programming signal comes from. with all the signal interference constantly around proximity can help a great deal. new battery or check battery in the fobs as well. I did see a way with other cars to use a working key fob to programme the others this may be a option but not sure.

      Dual Fuel (LPG Petrol) FZJ105 in Adelaide - What to do with?

      Hi all, Per subject dont know what to do with my cruiser - LPG availability is getting quite low in Adelaide so I either need to remove the LPG or sell it to someone where LPG is stronger (Melbourne for example).       New to Toyota - 2005 Corolla Sportivo!

      Hi, I'm new here and wanted some advice on some exhaust mods... I have a 2005 Toyota corolla sportivo and was looking to get a new exhaust system. I was looking at cat back exhausts but don't know where to go from there. What else will I need for a nice sounding exhaust system and where should I look at getting the parts? Is eBay okay or no?       I have three remotes for my car but only one works

      Hi, I replaced the batteries with new ones, checked the contacts (they all looked good) and I still can't code them to the car. They were presumably working before (like years ago) but they don't now. I can get the car into programming mode, but then it's radio silence from there, no cycling the locks twice to indicate an unsuccessful pairing, absolutely nothing on both of them. I used the guide that's stickied in this forum (and cross referenced it with others online, the were all the same), tried it multiple times but no success. Any advice?

      Never before !!

      I was driving my 2025 Camry hybrid along a flat section of the beach road when I noticed the “ total average” start dropping - I’d driven the car about 50 km on the day - but on this last 10 km section it just kept on dropping / not sure if it’s accurate !! I do know how to get the most out of the hybrid motor having driven 50 kin my 2022 model and 10 k in the 2025- it ended up dropping to 2.5 per 100km

      I’ve got 2025 and yes - still warm it up - especially in Melbourne/ it runs quite loud and rough at first - but then settles / I think it makes a difference

      Hi Tony - you’d need to drive it really hard to get 7.6 per 100km - that’s about what the ICE motor gets - 4.2-4.8 is about right - it takes time to learn how to drive a hybrid- but 7.6 is ridiculously high - and almost impossible

      Weird Range indication on 2025 sport model

      Hi - This is my second Camry sport - My first was the 2022 model which I traded in February 2025 for a new model - my Range indicator is showing 735 km when full - is this what other drivers are seeing? My total average resets to 30 litres per 100 km - randomly my fuel gauge shows 8 full bars but the range indicator shows 578 km Half a fuel tank shows 278 km?? in my previous car - I would fill up - range indicator would read 1030 then just move down sequentially- not this model - is there any other owner of the same model who is experiencing this ??
