Not trying to be smart, but have you thought about getting good sport tyres for your GT-P's instead of going straight to an R-compound tyre? I'm assuming you may have done one or two track days but if you haven't then exploring the upper limits of grip for an R compound would mean you'd have to be pushing quite hard to get them to squeal/lose grip pending the conditions of the day ect. I've attended track days where guys on sports tyres have been noticeably quicker than others on semi slicks as road tyres can offer a greater feedback to learning lines and technique before going straight to outright grip. Just my 2c

All good. Ive thought it all through. See below photos. This was one track day on Sydney motorsport park south where you barely get out of 3rd gear. Both rear tyres were munted all the way around. 490rwhp damages Dunlop sportmaxx's like that in one track day? The heat clearly disintegrated my street tyres. Sure they aren't the best street tyres out there. I think ill be going for 'R spec compounds'. I have a ridiculous amount of wheel spin in first and 2nd and even 3rd depending on the incline of the road. Traction is a big issue. Even since fitting my 19 inch ssr's with Kumho KU39's - still a massive loss of traction. This is something I will be working on with my tuner in the coming months. Theres a few things to tweak yet. I wont give up till its perfect.

Ill be driving down on my street rims - and swapping over to the toyos at the track. I don't wanna drive down to Goulbourn on street tyres, fark them and then drive back on farked tyres. Not really my thing.

update. I ended up getting myself a set of Hankook RS3's. Reason being is toyo R888's are out of stock right now and the Nitto NT01's only made a 275 for the rear and I needed a 265. So the next best option (in my opinion) was the RS3's. And damn, what a difference. They performed amazingly. No loss of traction at all - anywhere.

Had the track day on Monday. And this time around with the tyres, brake upgrades and standard manifold back on - what an epic difference. I had so much fun. It was a beast on the straights, but I got up to some serious speeds so had to brake early in corners and im still learning the car very much so the timing for when I applied the throttle wasn't the best. All in good time.

Downside... at 2:30 my day was done. The brand new rear brakes were cooked. Pads completely gone and rotors starting to scuff on the backing plates. Pretty disappointed. soooo took my rear pads out today. These were brand new QFM HPX pads - and between sessions, id say I would have had an absolute maximum of 2 hours track driving. supplier was shocked and have arranged for QFM to make met a set of a1rm's for the rear instead (which they don't normally do apparently). They will send them to me in good gesture.

I didn't expect the rears to do so much work...

so back to the drawing board for brakes. its not something I want to really ****** around with. but for now, standard pads and rotors back on so I can get the DBA rotors machined.

I should have some good video footage to upload and pictures, but for now a couple of iphone videos from my mate down the straight. sounding good :D

and last but not least - kyle from 6boost has finished the new manifold design which ill get around to installing in a couple of weeks and seeing how this one shapes up. Hoping for good results. New design has smaller runners 25nb and also much much shorter runners too (which is what I originally requested).

If those are the rears, what the hell do the fronts look like?

*were the rears. Fronts were okay - worn off a little but no chunks missing like the rears.

Good news is the RS3's were fantastic. I rate them.

sooo update time.

Firstly I just want to thank Kyle for his inputs and efforts to work through the whole manifold saga. Can confirm, saga is over. Can confirm 25nb 6boost design wins.

Put the new manifold on Tuesday. First drive I knew it was a massive improvement from the old design and what I felt was slightly better response than the stock manifold also. The power definitely felt like it was still there. Anyway, went to the tuners today. Basically the whole tune was out of whack putting this manifold back on so it was entirely re-mapped. I don't have a dyno graph yet because I forgot the **** thing while I was there. But the car is completely different. It has the response back, it has the power and potential for more and the off-boost response is dramatically better. Tuner said it comes on boost the same as the factory manifold when I got my first tune done which from memory saw full boost around 4100rpm. cant remember.

In the words of the tuner:

Ok here goes. The manifold threw the basic tune out quite a bit. I remapped it all up. Comes on boost same as std manifold. It is making 355kw on the same boost. I tried to increase boost and it was going to the sky at around 360kw before fuel pressure just fell over (As I expected). 380kw will be easy if we can fuel and spark. Maybe more even! Also the ignition would break down also when boosting up. So we revisit this subject of Fuel and Spark. We just need to bite the bullet and do something I think.

Basically, with a bit more fuel and spark - he is thinking this could get bigger numbers. but not really chasing that bigger number as ive said before. Just trying to get the best out of this setup and keep it at a reasonably safe level of tune. Good to know there is more room for improvement if wanted. The tomei lives on...

FYI - new manifold looks half the size of the other one. tiny in comparison. And the exhaust note is definitely louder now - nothing major, but just the right tone! compared to the big runner manifold which made it quieter.

so today I went to a dyno day for the local car club facebook group thingo. Few beasts there. I was on top when I left. Figure was pretty good, but the graph is what Im looking at and that boost too - so much earlier. Doesn't show what rpm though... ill be getting one off my tuner anyway.

Now I take dyno results with a grain of salt - but it appeared to be a bit of a tough dyno for most. Most people falling short of their previous amounts elsewhere especially AWD's. so it was a good feeling.

alrighty. update on brakes situation. Finally sorted and finally arrived after months and months of emails, research, conversation and discussions. Ive always hunted around brakes since ive owned the car. Theres a fair bit of stuff out there actually. Although nothing really available as 'bolt on replacement' for the rear. I wanted a front and rear matching kit. I have gone a little left field. I have opted for the Racing Brake kit for Lexus is200/300. For the front and rear kit - it costs a little bit more than if you were to get the OEM supra BBK with matching 2 piece rotors, upgraded pads, lines etc etc - but the supra bbk doesn't have upgradeable options for the rear available through nick and I believe the rear kits are not very straight forward on the 110's.

I read up on a lot of reviews, info, engineering specs and touched base with a few motorsport guys out there running the racing brake gear. They are getting big in the Nissan skyline world and were also installed on that blue lexus last year at world time attack - but I believe he was only running the rotors. There's a whole bunch of info on their website. Brakes aren't something to stuff around with I guess.

good news is front pads are same shape as 300zx pads, and the rears are evo pads. So plenty of other options there.

what I wanted:

* matching front and rear bbk kit (i.e. manufacturer)

* 2 piece rotors

* Forged aluminium calipers

* New brakes - not second hand

* Good options for pads - both shapes and formulas. These come with really cruisy street pads and I bought an extra set of decent track pads

anyway, Ill get these on the car soon enough. Not really pushing for it now because my volks wont clear the calipers so I need new track wheels. My ssr's will easily clear them so no problems there. Took the opportunity to get some good close up photos and what not. I might get around to doing a full write up on the install and trackwork impression.

and I know these might not be everyones taste! but I spent the time looking at all my options. These should pay off in the end. It came down to this kit or the OEM supra kit and upgrading the rear with whatever I could.

update. Brakes are in. Diff bushes also replaced - TRD bushes in thanks to Nick from NST.

I wasn't going to tackle the diff bushes myself. So got my local guys to get it up on the hoist and drop the rear subframe. They helped me install the brakes also - I took some time off in the afternoons this week to get them installed and sorted.

Install was a breeze considering. Brackets bolted up fine - calipers bolted on fine. We removed the front factory dust covers pretty easily but the rear ones had to be cut out unless I pulled it all apart. Either way, trimmed it neatly so it is not noticeable. Everything went in fine. Bled the system again and installed Motul RBF660 fluid. Rear rotor setup is really cool and no modification needed what so ever - handbrake works a treat like it always has. I already had braided lines installed so I retained these ones and didn't use the ones out of the kit, if anyone wants em let me know.

They look good - fill the rim a little more but nothing big and crazy like a brembo/AP/Endless caliper. First drive - brake pedal is now as stiff as ****. Barely have to touch it to get firm braking. Obviously a massive difference. Yet to fully bed them in at higher temps/speeds yet. The real test will be the track. Ive only got the street pads in at the moment so we shall see how that goes. New brakes feel significantly lighter than the old ones when I took the old ones off.

anyway ill get around to some proper photos later on. But heres some iphone shots. Might try and test fit the volks as there is pretty good clearance on the SSR's. Fingers crossed they fit... Itching to get back to the track.

What is the make of the SSR's? Ive seen a similar set on a 110 over here in VIC, fell in love when I saw them...would love a set for the 100 I think, getting over the BBS's

oh really? should have got a photo! i dont think ive seen another 110 or 100 with these wheels. id love to see silver finish on a 110.

im looking at new track wheels and maybe street wheels too lol. But i still love them. New wheels are more of a want item than need. Although i do need new 18's for the track that clear the big brakes.

jzx sunday... Just an oil and filter change for today. but decided I should probably clean my catch can out also considering I had not done it yet. this is what was inside since it was installed about 11,000kms ago. Not bad really. Watery at the bottom (probably e85 condensation) and just a thick sludge underneath the filter.

it's a good unit trent. Although I installed speedflow braided lines and fittings instead of using what they supplied. apart from that, seems to be working a treat and keeping my engine clean of that gunk and e85 condensation!
