Why do you want an axle? what's wrong with the ones you have? Sounds a lot like he's trying to frighten you into paying too much for a simple solution. Get another quote, without revealing the first. Tell them nothing, let them diagnose and give a detailed report. It's an easy test of their integrity-which you MUST be sure of if you're going to be a repeat customer. Where is/are the leak(s)? Is it gear oil or brake fluid? Is it a serious leak, or just a weep from a joint? How much oil is in your diff, and when does it need changing? If don't know assume NOW for safety. Ditto all other oils and liquids. When was the cam belt last changed or due? Has it been done? water pump replacement, thermostat, themostat housing? See above. Prevention is ALWAYS cheaper than cure-unless ur tinkering, which is THE most expensive form of "maintenance" known.

More info needed - 05 was a changeover year so which is yours? Also more information needed about this "leak", the rear axle could potentially leak in a few places but depending upon where affects how you'd go about fixing it.
