Hey,

I've got a 1kz engine, it goes into a limp or a derate mode whilst driving and brings check engine light on, it also brings up a code saying that the timing control valve is faulty.

I've done resistance checks on the valve and that checked out fine, I also checked the valve solonide, wiring harness and replaced the ecu. But with no success to the drama.

Could some body please help. Thanks

Sorry, this is a guess. I don't know what the part does, but I'll try. what does the valve regulate--could it be subject to over or under pressure, allowing bad operation. Also, chech routing of wires, well clear of anything HT? Check thermal responses/cleanliness concerns-is valve sticking? Is there a sub sensor downstream in that process which is getting incorrect input due to failed valve, or its own failure and wrongly diagnosing problem. Check valve operating voltages with digital voltmeter ONLY. Analog meter may damage digital circuits. is ecu working normally in other vehicle? IE Proven good?

with electronics, partic digital, you MUST ALWAYS independently PROVE them good before use, because without that, they could both be faulty, and you wouldn't KNOW. NIB means nothing, it may still be faulty. Time alone is a known killer of circuitry, NOS is always going to be unreliable. Used parts, more so.

shake all connectors in the area, see if loose/broken wire-these are the hardest faults to find, because they are intermittent.

get a wynns engine oilf flush additive, get engine to operating temp, pour additive into engine oil, start vehicle and let it idle for 15min or so, dump oil and replace filter. the point of this is dirty oil can block vvti oil galleries and cause it to operate irregularly. try that and see where it gets ya.
