96 2.8 Diesel Hiace timing belt Whine

Hi I'm new here and looking for some advice.

I recently got a low km reconditioned engine put in my hiace commuter. Since then I have done roughly 2500km and yesterday a whine developed, which soulded like it was from the timing belt. Increasing in pitch with revs after the engine warms up.

I have been told this is most likely the belt being too tight, however I can not get it back to the garage where i had the work done until the 10th of January as they are closed for Christmas. Obvioulsy this doesn't sound great, but will it do any damage driving until then? I am also don't understand why this whine would develope now, after driving it for 2500km.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Rich
