Hi Lads

So. My 95 Corolla Seca has been idle for a couple months because of previous issues. It has only been started for a couple seconds a couple times in those two months. One of the issues I had was that the flasher needed to be replaced. After eventually taking the flasher out and replacing it, the car wouldn't start. I thought maybe it was the battery so I took it out and changed overnight. Put it back in the next day and still nothing. Sometimes it sounds like it's struggling, other times it just doesn't do anything at all. Any thoughts?

Cheers

Is the replacement battery charged? Are all of the fluids full?

Yes sorry I meant to say that I took out and charged the battery overnight

Fluids?

Are you able to provide a video of what it is doing?

I've tried uploading a short video but it's not working.

But basically I connect the battery and the hazard lights come on automatically. I turn the key in the ignition and the lights on the dash comes on but that's it. Doesn't even attempt to start.

You have the video settings set to private. It needs to be set to unlisted or public.

Sorry it's on public now

Does the car have an aftermarket/factory immobiliser or alarm fitted?

Posted

The car does have an alarm fitted. It also APPEARS to have an immobiliser fitted. I stumbled across something that looks like it when I was replacing the Flasher. This however is news to me as the previous owner was a "as long as it runs I don't care" kind of owner.

The signs definitely point to an alarm/immobiliser issue. Normally, the indicators wouldn't flash unless that was the issue. Does the remote(if it has one) do anything when pressed?

I just used the remote to unlock the car and went to start the car up again and it started... it died after 10-15 seconds but I started it up again and it was running for a solid 5 min so it appears to be all good now.

Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it!

Now I just need to get my hands on a flasher for a 95! haha

Thanks again!

I thought so too, but after the car started up again I tried to use the indicators and they would stick again. Unless that's something else?

The alarm/immobiliser may have had a flasher built in. Likely the flasher relay.

Posted

so the flasher relay is likely what needs to be replaced?

If there is no clicking sound when the indicators or hazards are on, that should be the issue. Take the old one out and head to an auto parts store and grab a new one.

Ok awesome I'll give that a crack.

Cheers!

If you open your glove box is there a slot with 2 metal contacts that your remote fits into? If there is then your remote is most likely the issue. If you don't have a working remote the dealer has to replace the CIR and code in 2 new remotes.

I am able to code these though to deactivate the factory remote/ immobiliser but you won't be able to have a remote then.
