Octane Boosters and Fuel Injector cleaners

Recommended Posts

The Octane boosters work, but should i trust the fuel injector shizzle? Our gas here is pretty poor in comparison to you guys. There is no selection, just "gas" lol. Its about 94octane MAX so i use a octane boost every now and again. Tried one called "the outlaw" the other night and the car was rediculous. Acceleration was crisp and fluid and the cai bellowed deep from 4k.

But I'm interested in those injector cleaner in a bottle. Anyone every try it? We've got a Run Rite dealer / service center on the island and my partner with a Altezza had a treatment and is recommending it to everyone.

Any input???

I've found octane boost to be good when you've filled up with a tank full of bad fuel, but I've found adding it to good fuel doesn't bring any difference so 98 octane users shouldn't bother. 94/95 octane users would see a difference as it normally brings you up to around 98 octane.

My regular mechanic is a specialist injector cleaner. There's only one way to clean injectors and it doesn't come in a bottle. If the car feels better after adding injector cleaner products to your fuel, it's usually because it contains octane boost as well.

i tried some injector cleaner and the car is responding abit mopre aggressively, but as you said, i put it down to some octane boost in there too. I'm goign to try a run rite service next month. it might prove interesting.

I always figured the bottle stuff cleared up the injectors to some extent, but the full flush was needed to fully clean things up.

According to Toyota, their bottled injector cleaner will remove 99% of deposits > Click for details

But then again, they're not going to promote a product that only removes, say, 10%, are they? :P

I've heard bad things about fuel injecter cleaners. Syure they clean the injectors but where does the junk they clean off go? the only direction is further into the engine isnt it?

Especially when its being tagged onto your servicing bill.

But that's just what I've heard.

I guess the theory is that's one of the cleaning jobs for your oil.

if you're going to use the addative injector cleaner, it's best to do it with a new fuel filter, which isn't the easiest thing to change on the new corolla's. The addative injector cleaner is good at removing junk from your fuel filter and passing it on to the injectors ;)
