Hello

I have a 2007 Aurion ZR6.

I tow a trailer boat so installed the electric cable supplied with the boat trailer winch from the battery positive through to the boot. This can simply be plugged into the winch when you wish to pull your boat out of the water.

Unfortunately, for some reason the cable from the battery is a single positive cable. The plug end (in the boot) has a short section of black cable which you need to connect to earth / negative. ( I have been connecting to the tow bar with a jumper lead pending more permanent solution.)

Rather than connect into existing cables and given the reasonably high load when using the winch, I propose to connect to the car body by drilling a small hole and using a screw.

The attached photo of the left hand rear corner of the car shows the red cable from the battery and the black cable to be connected to earth.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't drill a small hole in the 'floor' in the vicinity of the black cable terminal you can see in middle of photo?

I don't know if there is anything below that could be damaged etc.

If anybody has done something similar or can provide advice I would be grateful.

Thanks & regards

That cable is not designed for the current draw that a winch requires. It is designed for trailer lights only.

Hello trentmeyer23

Thanks for your feedback.

I am using the Permanent Wiring Hookup supplied with and for the Powerwinch 912 boat trailer winch. I know it looks light. It is 7mm OD multi-core copper insulated wire.

Thanks & regards

PS Don't seem to be able to add picture to response.

Naturally drilling hole is a last resort.

Looking further I removed the black plastic boot liner (inside of rear bumper) and found a threaded post where negative wires from rear lights etc are secured by a nut.

Simply added my negative winch cable lead. Should have known there would be something like this somewhere!

Thanks trentmeyer23 for the how to add photo to responses.
