Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner

Just thought I would share my experience. This Subaru branded cleaner seems to be well thought of, search it and many car forums will come up across different car brands. I bought 2 cans from ebay. You spray half a can into the intake via a vaccum hose with engine off, leave for 2 min then start it - which was not an easy start. Run it and spray the rest in as it runs.

Quite a lot of smoke came out of the exhaust which many people seem to think is a good sign of stuff being removed from the engine. 

My aurion has 207 000km and has probably not been serviced too well by the previous owner. It ran vell before the treatment and runs well now, I wasnt using it to try to solve a problem.

would this not do what 98 does?

could you just run 98 to get the same outcome?

No. 98 octane unleaded does not clean oil and carbon deposits from the intake, nor does it clean them very well from the pistons, valves and ports.
