Hi,

I took my seat belt down and luberated it with WD40 because it was locked itself. There was a yellow connector linked with the seat belt. I didn't disconnect the battery. Then I was driving the car without any problem until I realise the seat belt light is on and off. It was on for 3 seconds and off for 1 second.

I disconnected the battery overnight. It doesn't work. I unpluged and pluged whatever the pulg is under the driver seat, it did nothing. I took off the glove box and disconnected the yellow connector near the fuse box. It doesn't work.

I just feel I need to reset something. Could anyone please help?

Hi Ray. So you removed the seat belt inertia reel assembly from the vehicle so you could get better access to it I'm guessing. Did you by any chance have to remove the seat first ?

If so, the seat has an occupancy sensor plug which is yellow. It may also be in series with your seat belt. If you unplugged this while the battery was still connected and your ignition was turned on at some point then it will flag a code and the airbag light will be displayed. Scenario two, if you reassembled everything and haven't connected the plug correctly, then go to start the car, it will also flag a code and airbag light will light up. If it was ok before then it was something in the order of process you did incorrectly.

I did this once in my BMW and the airbag light came on too. I had an airbag reset tool handy and was able to zap it.

What you need is a code reader and one that has the ability to reset the airbag code. There is no backdoor fix unfortunately. I encourage everybody to invest in such a tool because all these modern cars are computer controlled and it will save you a  lot of time and money trying to diagnose something you may know nothing about. At least it will help point you in the right direction. Doesn't have to be an expensive tool. You can get cheap ones that will do the basic items such as airbag reset.

Ask some of your friends, they may have one. Just go back over your work and make sure all electrical sockets or plugs you disconnected are connected correctly then address the situation.

Also, did you check the airbag fuse ?

Hi Ray, with the airbag light, to clear it you will require a form of code reader which for our year model Corolla's are a bit finicky to find that will 100% work. I myself had the airbag light come on randomly one night on a drive. I literally went over a small dip in the road and it came on.

The simplest option would be to get Toyota to clear it, even more of a bonus if you haven't done the airbag re-call as of yet. I will double check with some of my mates as I think one of them may have a working model code scanner.
