Ive been waiting patiently for the new sportivo for ages now as i thought they were headed here by the end of this year...

But also after all the problems im reading about owners cars on here it has put me off purchasing one a bit. Now im not sure whether i should wait for the new sportivo if its going to have the same issues as the current model or will toyota wake up an rectify things...

whats your opinion guys? :(

I think you are reading to much into it my self. I don't have the same issues that some people have like rattles and so on. I think they are a great car for what they cost. They are fun to drive and look good when you do a few things to them. They don't cost the earth to insure, which is also a bonus. Unfortunitly a lot of people of blown the ECU thing way out of proprtion. But Toyota are fixing it. I could have bought a WRX but prefer this cos you have to drive the car for it to perform.

I agree with you Peekay, every car has it's problems, even the expensive Porsches. If you read what other cars are being recalled for, you'll be shocked.

The Stivo is a great little car, that's why we are all on this forum. A forum helps us to discuss lots of stuff, including problems. Unlike some others, I too haven't had any rattles in the car, and it may or may not be an issue for you anyway. Most people come on forums to look for solutions to their problems, therefore you get to hear so much of it here.

I know of many of us here who would stand by our Stivos no matter what. So try one first before you decide. Let the actual drive dictate your decision, not us whingers here. :D

I agree man, well its kind of different for me becuase I have not experienced the issues but even now knowing what I know about potential issues its still a great car to own.

My last car went back to the dealer 25 times in the 24 months I owned it, I bought the thing brand bloody new, I paid $19,000 cash for it and most places offered $6,000 trade in only 2 years later, Toyota gave me $11,000. NO recalls were done on the thing NO quality in the service and NO apology from them for such pathetic service, they even made me pay for a loaner while they fixed my car, we are talking incorrect welds on the back end resulting in a 'floating' back end, VERY dangerous. We are talking the sump being misallinged after a service and oil everywhere, we are talking a stereo replacement 9 times yet no one ever listened when I suggested the elcetrics could be the issue rather than 9 brand new stereos, we are talking engine cut outs and being told "If you can't get it to us within 10 k's of cutting out then we cant help you. 3 sets of shock replacements, 2 sets of smashed bearings, 4 sets of tires due to the wheels putting themselve out of allignment constantly, I only did 80,000 k's on the thing, I never thrashed the thing or went off road, most of my driving was freeway driving to work and back about 120 K's per day.

When I called the head office, the guy outright accused me of lying, they told me you have to replace your break pads every 20,000 K's and I said my brother (commodore owner) and my dad (falcon owner) both have cars heavier than mine and they get over 100,000 out of a set of pads and the guy said I was lying and had no idea because he used to be a break specialist and all cars wear pads out within 10,000 - 20,000, they also said I had to replace my discs at every pad change. I was lied to, I was insulted and I was treated like an idiot.

Suddenly the sportivo looks pretty damn good :) Best car I ever owned :).

Sounds like a brand new BMW & then a brand new Volvo I have owned.

And before you say it the volvo was a pretty cool car. and no it did not come with a hat! :D

For those interested, I've just received an email from my dealer mentioning that the notices should be being sent out on the 23rd,

She also said that I will need to take in all 3 keys (2remote + 1passive). I assume the new ECU needs to be programmed to work with your keys. So, time to go through all the junk in my room and try to remember where I put the spare keys :)

Well after hearing all that maybe i am reading into it a bit too much, the sportivo at the moment is the only car in that price range which i am keen on plus i am a diehard toyota fan!!!

Maybe im a bit cautious aswell because at the moment i own a 2001 Rav4 an havent had one thing wrong with it apart from the pesky dash rattle!!! thats why i just thought it a little strange for a toyota to have a few issues, but not to worry the rav stays until the new stivo is released!!!
