Hi everyone

I just did a random check of my spark plugs and found out that they dont seem healthy.

Here is a pic

Just want to know what is causing that rust.

The car only has 20,xxxk on the clock. The oil is all good.

or

Is it time for new plugs?

thanx

First of all bro u need to change them asap,They definitely look sick ..From looking at the plugs in the photo,I cant really diagnose the problem because they look rusted from the electrode,Ide either say uve got a water leak internally,or wicked condensation in the chamber,How did the engine run at first??

hmm... you might want to check your AFR whilst your're at it... maybe a bad o2 sensor is making the engine run rich/lean? that might be contributing to the problem.

thanx for the replies. Replaced the sparks with new iridiums, drove it around for a while and it was all sweet. Got home, took out the sparks to see that they were wearing out again... So I'm going to get my AFR checked.

these are my new spark plugs. 1 day old

The plugs look fine, there was no reason to replace the originals.

There's no electrode damage or wear that I can see from the photo's. The colouration is from the type of fuel you use.

I just changed my spark plugs today. I went for the Denso Iridium Sports ones. It has an electrode of 0.4 mm Got it for $74 at castle Hill toyota. I was eargerly anticipating a 10kw increase jks. But seriously I didn't feel a difference. When i pulled my old plugs out they looked like SIL3NT's ones.

No need for really expensive spark plugs for the 1ZZ, I just bought replacement NGK ones, $4.00 each from Autobarn  My 100,000kms-old Denso sparkplugs(stockers) could have gone for another 100,000kms by the looks of them
