  1. Yep, definitely gets worse in Winter and on cold nights. I think its hard to shift on every gear when you are in high revs (above 7500rpm). Recently crunched second gear AGAIN:( Wasn't even quick shifting and still had clutch all the way to the floor. I wonder how much more crunching the 2nd gear synchros can take before something breaks ANyway, Monday would be my Tranny oil change day to Full SYnthetic. Crossing my fingers it would work out for the tranny because it has cost me $75 to purchase 3 liters of Castrol Syntrax tranny oil. Zee
  2. I agree we should all make Toyota admit this publicly. I am getting sick of big organisations lying to the public, deceiving the unsuspecting. Its hard earned money we are shelling out to buy the Stivo. I suggest all Stivo owners on the forum sign a petition or something and we can submit it to Toyota AUstralia to get them to take action. I think the SA guys did the same thing didn't they and it worked. What do you guys think? Zee
  3. Might have to paste it up on a few more sites and pass a few directly onto Toyota HO ;) Honestly though it would be interesting to know what kind of info they have been looking at both internally and externally (forums etc.) to derive an answer or to base their reports on. 4. Toyota South Africa has formally acknowledged that the South African spec cars do not deliver on the 141kW promise. However, new "kits" have been ordered from Japan and will be fitted to all RSi's locally in the near future, at no additional cost to owners. With respect to the unavailability of the cars in Oz, the reason is quite simple. Australia gets its Corollas from Japan and SA. However SA are still producing the current spec whilst Japan has moved to the facelift. All Stivos come from SA. Since SA will only produce facelifts in the latter part of the year, you will get the Stivo then. Also, on the 141kW issue, the standards bureau in Australia would require the car to go through homologation process again as the power ouput is currenly lower than 140kW Quicksilver, any idea what sort of "kit" it is in SA that would bring life back in the Stivo? I would totally agree that whatever "kit" you guys receive would be applied to our Stivos here in Oz. Damn Toyota, no wonder the Stivos aren't getting enough street cred., especially when we take it up against our competition such as Civic VtiRs, Focus ST170, the Cooper S and Astra Turbos.
  5. Those in Sydney or NSW can try Ian Luff's advanced driving school. I think they are the best in NSW because i enquired about them a few years ago. Check out their website Ian Luff's Advanced Driving School Here is the price list: 1) STAGE ONE - DRIVE TO SURVIVE: Weekday - $265.00 Saturday Surcharge - $15 This 1 day (8 hour) programme is ideal for increasing car handling skills and lifting awareness levels using both wet and dry conditions. 2)STAGE TWO - ADVANCED CAR CONTROL: Weekday - $275.00 Saturday Surchage - $15 Excellent follow up to Stage 1 with more advanced technique in skid and slide control on Skid Pan. Stage 1 Drive to Survive is a pre-requsite. 3)STAGE THREE - PERFORMANCE DRIVING: Weekday $345.00 Approved by CAMS for competition licence endorsement. Ideal for learning all racing aspects or enjoying a "speedfix". Stage 1 Drive to Survive is a pre-requisite. SPECIAL DISCOUNT PACKAGES A) Stage 1 & 2 Car Control - $510 B) Stage 1 & 3 (2 day CAMS course) - $580 C) Stage 1,2 & 3 - $855 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And again if there are quite a few of us interested, we would most probably be able to get a group discount. One thing to note is the owner will take full responsibility for what happens to their car (eg. mechanical problems, wear and tear on tyres, clutch or brake pads). Cheers, ZEE
  6. Wow, my first ever drag in my Stivo and what a perfect drag that was I was just driving the Stivo out for a leisurely cruise today, went up a mountain pass and drove back down south towards Shellharbour on the Princess Highway when... 1) I see an N14 SSS with exhaust mod and chrome rims in front so i caught up and here comes a set of lights. 1st gear to 8200rpm (1 full car length in front) and that was basically it because the road was merging from 2 lanes to 1, and i didn't go any further. Next up: 2)Behind us were 2 P-Platers in a 2003 Holden Commodore VX Ute (V6 i think) with nice deep sounding exhaust and a VT Commodore Sedan (V6). They probably saw the SSS and i were having some fun and wanted to play but for about 10 minutes they were unable to catch up to me due to traffic lights. Then they finally caught up with me and i wasn't interested in playing with them because i am not the sort of guy that takes risks on Public Holidays :P , but one of the Ute's mates waved at me to signal "It's On" so i thought what the heck if there is not much traffic and if we are lucky to hit a set of lights then so be it. So there we were missing 4 sets of traffic lights with heaps of cars behind us and i thought forget it, but just 5 minutes from home, the opportunity came on a 3 lane street notorious for Police waiting at the other end. The lights turn Red. We all pulled up with the Stivo on the far right and the Ute on the far left. They started revving a little and i watched the lights, revved a couple of times (not watching tacho but should be around 4000rpm), Lights turn Green and GO.. Wheels spun for a second but surprisingly still neck and neck with the sedan and Ute, but once my wheels stopped spinning at around 5000rpm, i took a slight lead (the Holden's were shifting up a gear then) and Lift kicked in. Still neck and neck with Ute and the sedan falling half car behind. Revved 1st to limiter and a steady solid shift into second and i chirped the tyres revving on in Lift! :D (Was surprised, it was a perfect shift and it wasn't even a quick shift) 2nd gear allowed the Stivo to creep ahead of Commodore Ute by about half car length! and then to 2nd gear rev-limiter again and into 3rd gear lift (perfect shift again), this time about 1 full car in front of sedan and the Ute was falling behind as well. I jumped on the brakes a second after 3rd because it was a 70 zone :( No cops in sight, phew.. They pulled up at the next set of lights and the guy in the Ute said " Nice driving, I was like WTF! Oh, its a Sportivo isn't it? " What a day, adrenaline still rushing in me.. like i said i don't usually drag people but today was special :P 1 more thing, i noticed my shifter was much smoother to shift after that drag, wierd though because it only lasted a minute. Also something to note is that it was 2.30pm when we played and it was showing 24 degrees on the Stivo. Sorry for the long post guys. Zee
  7. Okay guys, i purchased 2 X 1liter bottles of Castrol Syntrax Fully Synthetic Tranny oil today from Super Cheap Auto for $24.95 each bottle = $50 bucks! The Corolla Manual recommends using 75W90 GL5 oil and needs 2.3liters of it but couldn't find any more in store If any of you are planning to get the Castrol oil be aware there are only 2 Synthtic gear oils by Castrol and they are bloody confusing! One is called SYNTRANS 75W85, and the other which i've got is SYNTRAX 75W90 and the oil is dyed RED. They cost about the same and the bottles are both grey so be careful! I will have them put in in a weeks time by Toyota and will let you all know about the result. Crossing my fingers :D
  8. Hopefully we have not implemented speed restrictors on cars by then! Did you guys see the program that day on the possibility of implementing speed restrictors like the Japs do to their cars?
  9. Never knew about the pod filter thing with ADR and the cops Does that mean even with the TRD CAI we can also get into trouble with coppers?
  10. Oh man, i am having difficulty breathing just by reading that label HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
  11. Spot on mate, so i guess all Stivos get this problem. That's the reason for this post? Anyone had any luck with good tranny oils besides the "custom" oil?
  12. Wow, i am also an RN, new grad but. Graduated last July and had to go overseas for a while. Currently not employed as an RN yet, looking to get into a program :D
  13. I think it has been discussed before but i will recap if i can remember all.. Umm with engile oil change intervals it all depends on how you drive. The more agressive and more stop start driving you do, oil change at 5000km interval is recommended. I personally would do it more often because its only another $40-$50 every 5000km but would give you a peace of mind. As with oil filters, its better to use genuine Toyota for warranty issues. I think some guys here don't do that due to costs but it would be a gamble with your warranty.
  14. I second what Danthuyer said. Sorry Craig, my bad ;)
  15. Mobil 1 is 5W50 and it costs around $60. I used Castrol R 5W30 Synthetic recommended for high performance 4 cylinder cars and it cost around $40 and only because the manual recommends 5W30. I don't think engine oils will make much difference unless you take the car to the track or you do endurance races. Castrol also has a 0W40 Synthetic at same price as Mobil 1. A cheap and safe option is to go Toyota Genuine mineral oil rated at 10W30 for $25, but Synthetic will be better.
  16. I think the "custom" oil could be half motor oil and half tranny oil. Danthuyer was telling me some people find that motor oil works well to solve the stiff shifting issues. But currently i am looking at a complete tranny fluid change. Migh go the Castrol Syntrax becasue its the easiest to source.
  17. Hi guys, i am looking at replacing my tranny oil as i am having diificulties with shifting and i have a few brands in mind. I was told by Toyota to use a 75W90 tranny oil. The easiest to source is the Synthetic Castrol Syntrax 75W90 which costs $22 per litre. Others brands include the reknowned Redline, Mobil, Motul and Elf but would be harder to source. Has any of you guys with the Celica 6 speed had your tranny oil changed? Please let me know about your experiences and recommendations. Also how much oil does the Stivo's tranny require? Another question is that my Stivo has only clocked 6000kms and i have heard some people say its not advisable to have the tranny oil changed that early. What do yous think? Thanks in advance :) Zee
  18. So i guess that means we will have an updated Stivo in September but sure to cost a little bit more. That would also probably mean repair parts for our Stivos!? I wonder if they would go for detuned 2ZZGE? And i have always wondered if our Stivos have been getting the detuned 2ZZGE, that would answer all the critics about lower power and acceleration times compared to the Jap Spec
  19. Great to hear you guys had fun. How heavy was the Integra with JDM B16A? They would be quite light weight i think and with the JDM B16A i think it produces 125kw (170ps). But good to hear the Stivo was still able to keep up with a modded B16A. I guess with a stock B16A, the Stivo should pull ahead every time.
  20. Tell me more bout this aircon ducting that you speak of... i've heard my mate talking about putting his pod into a box and directing some aircon ducting into it to make it suck cold air.. but dont you have to turn on the aircon for the pod to be sucking cold air? Umm, you don't need the aircon switched on for the pod to suck in cool air. Just have some shield to conceal the pod or have it mounted somewhere it can suck in cooler air. Hmm, i am confused as to the benefits of shorter tubing with pod closer to engine or longer tubing with pod away as far as possible from engine. You see, i have been observing many modified NA high performance cars in Japan including the MRS with 2ZZGE transplant and they have the pod mounted in the bay with very short piping.
  21. Welcome to the forum although you have been around for a while.. Welcome! Just have to ask, especially when you mentioned you are an engineer for Toyota :P Have you got problems on your Stivo and do you by any chance know anything regarding the problems some or most of us Stivo owners are experiencing?
