  1. The annoying thing about the optitron is that you cannot have instantaneous fuel consumption displayed at the same time as the clock (school zones and what not)... or at least have the clock always there somewhere and have something else displayed. The standard combimeter lets you do that.. and is more accurate in terms of speedometer accuracy. (3-4km/h vs 5-6km/h from rudimentary checks)
  2. Is that a 08+ thing? Seems odd as I have never known any ABS system to do that. Has anyone mentioned it's the ABS? No, the ABS light should not light up when it's activated. The light is a warning lamp. The TRC/VSC/Slipping car icon however is an activation light when it is operating. Yes the grinding noise (as well as brake pedal pulsation) is the ABS doing it's job so it is functioning properly. No, ABS doesn't tell you when it's time to replace worn out tyres No, ABS will activate on dry roads as well as wet and it is not an indicator of whether or not you're braking too fast.
  3. Yet no one mentioned the virtually maintenance free benefits of driving an electric car....
  4. It's not the difficulty. It's the cost of it which makes it crazy stupid to spend on a dash. It's not like it's some magic dash that gives you more power or anything. With the cost and labour of it, you might as well spend it on a holiday or concert tickets. Anyway, it's not a hard job to do but it's the cost of the combimeter that will make it not worth it.
  5. Opitron is fitted when you choose the safety pack for hatches only. Sedan doesn't get Optitron combination meter unless it's an Ultima.
  6. Sorry, got to ask why you didn't choose the factory cruise option when it is only $750 which also comes with the leather steering wheel and gear knob?
  7. Biggest misconception is that all cars have provisions to fit towbars. Towing with passenger vehicles is pretty much a European and Australian thing. Toyota don't make cars just for Australia. The second misconception is that there's a breakout plug for towbars for all cars. Maybe 1 in 5 cars have towbars fitted so that means 4 out of 5 people pay for plugs that they don't require. Certainly a great way to cut the cost of manufacturing.
  8. Where is a date stamp on their release? And then even if it is so, where was the reference to the original post other than a quick copy paste of the PDF by an obvious Toyota employee from the email bulletin.
  9. When people who work for the corporation puts things such as pre-launch TAMS data, pre-API, API data and press releases out onto public forums, you better look out coz there are people in this corporation that actually car about company confidentiality rather than be a hero on a public forum... there has been serious breaches of confidentiality and when it says embargo, it means just that. Sure Dave sent the email at 11:04am, but that doesn't mean it's for immediate distribution. If it says an API is not for dealer distribution, I think it covers the public.... do you want to be out of a job in this economic climate?
  10. Whoever posted this forgot to read.. EMBARGO 3PM 19 DECEMBER 2008 at the top of that PDF.
  11. Why would you want to pay anything for a cold air intake. If you have a look at the intake, there's a lot of scope to redirect it down to the lower grill opening from behind the headlights. If you take out the under fender cover so you can follow the pipe down behind the fog lights (which then goes back up to behind the headlights), all you do is take out the bolts holding the pipes and redirect it in front of the radiator and right at the opening of the lower grill. So far, I can't say there's more power, but fuel economy certainly dropped fractionally according to the car average fuel consumption. Cost $0 + 1 hour.
  12. You guys are illuding yourself if you can replicate what VSC can do with one brake pedal. I strongly suggest you guys either take your car to the skid pan and try a car with and without VSC. It's one thing that a person with the greatest amount of driving skill cannot replicate physically. Sure you can drive slower but if a kid/kangaroo/drunken person walks out in front of you in even the best of conditions, you'll be glad it'd kick in and keep the car going where you want to go provided you're being proactively avoiding the situation with steering inputs. I suggest you spend the time to watch this video located here to see not just VSC but also additional technology that keeps the car tracking where you steer it no matter what conditions. http://www.nihoncar.com/en/review-330-Toyo...aste,+HDTV.html And of course most of you hopefully would have seen this one from 5th Gear http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=wR1SSxpKitE
  13. You know or you actually know? Even if it's pegged to the USD or JPY, you're screwed either way for cost.
  14. Why didn't you get a Levin SX in the first place? and you also forgot about the hatch spoiler too.
  15. You tend to notice it as they follow on almost every lane change.
  16. Just look out for people that want to race you... it is a car that attracts attention... wanted and unwanted.. I got tired of the attention that this car attracted really quickly and started looking out for people behind that might bump you and then steal the car as you get out of it (to investigate the damage)
  17. You so don't know how the big Toyota sausage machine works....
  18. I'd like to understand where you got the information that the Corolla turbo didn't get a lot of effort put into it. Like to see how many people have homologated a car and made a car ADR compliant recently.
  19. Before you spend more money, why not put back the standard wheels and tyres that didn't make your car shake before the new wheels were installed? Start from one end and work your way back to the steering wheel. Seems like a logical way to solve a problem.
  20. Put it this way, if the CSA saves your life and the lives inside it, you can continue to at least enjoy life. Sportivo is nice, but being alive to enjoy it is even better.
  21. Why would they reject your claim unless you were either drunk or the car was illegally modded.??
  22. On the driver's side in the boot between the exterior panel and suspension mount, there's a black box inside that gap. You'll find the fuse in there. The fuse for the cig lighter is under the dash I think where everything else is. It's quite easy to pop that 15A fuse but pull out the interior trim and see if the connections are in tightly as the cig lighter can come loose off the mount quite easily if you change plugs regularly
