  1. I'd like to know the extent of that "lifetime warranty". Wonder if it covers the car if it cracks the rails? I'll give a lifetime warranty on my comments... but would that persuade you to believe me on at least the towbar? most likely not.
  2. As mentioned in the Kluger section, you can use your phone's microphone as the HU also utilises it as an additional microphone pickup. If you have your phone somewhere in front, it'd be fine.
  3. Sure you can. It's called walking or public transport. You just make it a no choice option because you can't make it not-a-fact-of-life. Driving is a want, not a need. You won't die without driving and one can find work without driving. I'm not complaining about fuel prices.... actually it's good now people think a bit more about where and how they should be going rather than jumping into a car and going down the road.
  4. As said earlier, Hayman Reese CANNOT copy the genuine Toyota bar. They are licensed to make the Toyota bar but cannot sell it as their own so your misconception that Hayman Reese = Toyota genuine bar is sadly, incorrect.
  5. I like how people think that a bit of plastic and metal should cost $50 at Simsmetal rates. If it was such a rip off, an arc welder and a dremel can fix that.
  6. Maybe it's a matter of horses for courses but I do easily 500km just M-F (2.5hrs a day) and then add some for weekends... iPod connector to the back of the standard 6 stack BT unit is enough for me... Luggage space is where things are safest to place it.. Anything in the back seat will easily clobber you in the head should the worse happen and plus you can't hide things in the back seat if it's anything like a laptop computer or anything even though that's not really advisable to do that. Again, horses for courses...
  7. Great response .. you should work at a tyre store.... will the new wheels offset damage anything like wheels bearings?? Long term, it will place added stress or will the wheels rub with a full load? You'll have to check the clearance of the wheels and tyres will it change the handling of the car? Steering will be sharper, ride will be harder, handling dependant a lot on your tyres, if the wheels + tyres are heavier your braking distance will increase slightly and fuel economy will get worse slightly
  8. Here's a tip for scratched disc of any type that I use to get rid of scratches. Put a really small dab of regular toothpaste on a wet cloth. Then rub gently (really stress on the gently part) on the surface. It should act like cut polish on a car panel so do it slowly and the deep scratches should come out. Rinse the disc out with water and then dry it. Check if the scratches are slowly disappearing. If not, repeat. Just do it bit by bit because you don't want to overdo it. Dry the disc and pop it into a PC drive. If it works, burn a copy right away so you at least have a backup should something stuff up, then try it in the car.
  9. Go and check every single car... it'd have a similar ripple... I believe it's part of the laminating process but I can't confirm. As long as it doesn't distort looking forwards, then there's not much to complain about as you're quite unlikely to be driving the car from outside the driver's seat.
  10. If they made a simple call to the technical people at head office would have told them this..... but, it wouldn't have made them $$ telling you this information as I said, they can't make their money selling your "clear" tint. Like wearing clothes made of invisible cotton and people would pay for it... (1) Windshield Colour Glass : Green Type : Laminated UV Cut Rate : 99 % Solar Heat Reduction Rate : 47.8 % Visible Light Transmission Rate: 78.9 % (2) Sliding Roof Colour Glass : Gray Type : Tempered UV Cut Rate : 95.4 % Solar Heat Reduction Rate : 78.5 % Visible Light Transmission Rate: 18.9 % (3) Front Door Colour Glass : Green Type : Tempered UV Cut Rate : 91.8 % Solar Heat Reduction Rate : 55.5 % Visible Light Transmission Rate: 72.8 % (4) Rear Door Privacy Colour Glass : Privacy Type : Tempered UV Cut Rate : 96.8 % Solar Heat Reduction Rate : 82.2 % Visible Light Transmission Rate: 20.8 % (5) Rear Quarter Privacy Colour Glass : Privacy Type : Tempered UV Cut Rate : 90.2 % Solar Heat Reduction Rate : 78.2 % Visible Light Transmission Rate: 23.6 % (6) Back Door Privacy Colour Glass : Privacy Type : Tempered UV Cut Rate : 95.9 % Solar Heat Reduction Rate : 89.6 % Visible Light Transmission Rate: 11.1 %
  11. I'm amazed that you're willing to fit/carry/lug a big box like that for the sake of doof doof... I don't know how you have any room to live with the car. Maybe a Tarago might have been a better choice??!!??
  12. If you want to connect a ful sik sub or amp, then get the Eclipse as it'd have provisions for them.... if u want just the head unit, then buy the Toyota.
  13. OK.. playing with my 6 stacker.. there is a solution to make the voice clearer and it is to put the handset in the direction you're speaking like a cupholder because not only does the microphone in the headunit work but also the microphone on your handset also functions (at least it does on my O2 phone). So give that a try and see if it helps with the other end being able to hear you.
  14. Try driving on the highway with a load of 7 or 8 + luggage in a 2.4L Tarago... then add a roof box full of luggage, and trailer.... and the thing is, the 3.5L uses the same amount of fuel as the 2.4.... from my experience... and no it's not overly powerful but it can ***** a lot of people off when a Tarago passes them. I know I've cheesed off a few people because they think they are king of the road and wrestle me out of a lane because of the vehicle.
  15. It's helping as it's holding the brakes and sliding the car in a correct manner. However, you still can spin a car with VSC and in this case, it has enough traction with studded winter tyres to correct it. The laws of physics apply equally to every single car with or without VSC. Btw, Tiff was driving like a bit of a lunatic then though to over dramatise the situation for TV and some, he didn't explain properly like traction control. VSC is not inferior in Toyota as they are on any manufacturer. If you're saying that, then you might as well say the airbags in a particular brand is not as good as another brand... Like Jez and his stupidity in the Wheels mag roll over... people in the know tell me that he was doing well over the speed he claimed he did at the time of the accident. Fortunately for him, the Kluger held up and saved him.. which he failed to mention.
  16. No one in the world is asking for it...
  17. I wish it was that simple.... obviously sharp edges aren't an issue for you... then get the Eclipse. Those Toyota Navi are from the states... I "don't" think they work here as they have had some tweaks to get them working in the southern hemisphere.
  18. Could you elaborate on the blind spot? Seat thing.. just put it on the floor. It's safer down there should you *touchwood* have a prang. It's one of the criteria that is needed to get 5 star NCAP rating (with the safety pack).... Without it, it's a 4 star on that item alone. The bike thing... ever thought of roof racks and bike holder?
  19. You can (I think) do that right now in a Tarago V6.... and bring some mates to point and laugh as well. Taka, I spend some time.. actually, 2 nights with a Territory... it has a funny fuel management system where it does not seem to cut off fuel when you're pulling back a gear to get compression braking down a hill and what's worse is that the fuel consumption increases as you bring on more revs. Every car I know cuts fuel at a certain rev when it's on compression braking.... the old 92 Camry I had did that at anything >1700rpm... fuel consumption on driving normally was 16.5L/100km... had to hand it back when it decided to stall on me whilst I was moving (this is an automatic transmission)... I deemed too dangerous on that alone. It's had a steering box replaced and many other stuff happen to it in the 1st year of its life and it's only done 8,000km.
  20. This is true as you don't want rain/snow/dirt/splattered bugs triggering the front sensors when you're doing >10km/h which isn't really parking speeds but there should be a switch to turn them off for times when you're in the city and there's people walking in front of the car. They will turn back on if you restart the engine so default mode will be on. Though the genuine ones will not trigger a fault warning easily even if it did have bugs/dirt/snow on them so it's not as simple as the aftermarket people think by putting rear parking sensors to the front. Btw, they are corner sensors, not front parking sensors so don't use them to judge how close you are to the car in front.
  21. There's too many stupid people driving in Syd oblivious to their surroundings hence the need to use the horn (just a tap, not leaning on the horn). I used to need the horn at least once a week but it's getting better... might be once a month now so something has changed. Volvo's of the 70's had a nice horn. Throaty note to it. :D
  22. Abrupt steering inputs does not need to happen for VSC to kick in. I do suggest you see the video above as it breaks down ABS only, ABS + VSC together, ABS + VSC + TRC + AVS + Active steering (or VDIM which controls the lot as one unit as opposed to separate units). VSC still allows you to spin the car at extreme conditions and only when there is grip to the road. If there is no grip, VSC will not work effectively.
  23. ADR have changed.... Oh, ask for people passing, as long as you're in the slower lanes and not hogging the right lanes, then I'm all for people passing. Courtesy is a 2 way street.
  24. Something interesting in line with this topic... FLV file (85Mb) It's an interesting video that runs for 11mins showing some active safety items bit by bit from the driver's seat as well as IPA..... some of which are available here, some that are not. Video courtesy of Nihoncar.com
