  1. and slower... but still retaining the 1.8L... Considering all ZZE Corollas had 1.8L engines (at least in Australia), that's not exactly earth-shattering. But yes, it will be slower because even the "sporty" Levin has the exact same engine as the base model Ascent. Only the Sportivo had the 2ZZGE.
  2. Oil dipstick is nowhere near the coolant overflow bottle on a 7AFE, unless you're getting confused with the auto transmission dipstick (if your car is auto). Coolant leak near the oil dipstick to me would indicate water pump failure, or at least failure of the seals/hoses/clamps in that general vicinity.
  3. In case you need to know the name/style, they are shank-style acorn nuts
  4. Coolant leak, not necessarily a radiator leak. Check all your coolant hoses and clamps, as well as the drain taps on the bottom of the radiator and the engine block, and the thermostat housing on the end of the head. Can you recall whereabouts under the car the puddle was forming?
  5. Considering there really is only one other Australian-built engine, it's kind of a moot point. It's like winning the Melbourne Cup when there are only two horses.
  6. It's different. The 102 Sprinters have almost nothing in common body-wise with the sedan/Seca, the front bar may swap over and the doors could be the same, but that would be about it.
  7. Idle-speed set too low? Engine/gearbox-mount on the way out?
  8. One thing to look out for is that some speakers come with the right hole-spacing as standard - the JL Audio 6" 2-ways that I got for the AE102 bolted right in to the 3-bolt pattern as they had both 3- and 4-hole patters on the speaker.
  9. Almost every single AE10x Seca I have seen has had the faded rear garnish...one more reason why I prefer the sedans, as it doesn't seem to happen to them :-D

    3sge blacktop

It will all fit in fine, you will need the engine, loom, ecu, etc... basicly a whole half cut. The transmissions are compatible as well. IMO you will be wasting your time doing it, a 3SGE beams is a very expensive engine, and then there is the cost of the swap, etc. also, in QLD at lest you cant do engine swaps that require a mod plate on your p's. the 3SGE is a good engine, if you did some pretty basic mods to it you would be able easily get more performance from it. Save your cash and once you are off your p's do a 3sgte swap. Blacktop BEAMS is RWD remember, so there may be a bit more work required - redtop BEAMS might be a better option as it is transverse layout in both the ST202 and SW20.
  11. Taxis run better on higher ks than just about any other car, because they are running for _very_ long periods of time. Most engine wear occurs just after a cold start, and taxis are on the road often 24/7 (in the case of shared units) or at least 8-10 solid hours a day, every day.
  12. Being in the middle of nowhere, doubt there are many members from Muswellbrook (unless they all drive 'Cruisers). And the local pubs are a bit dodgy, remember that it's a country town so rocking up with your sub pumping and your collar upturned won't make a good first impression :P
  13. If the starter is wet, then clutch starting will work. If it's the dizzy/coil/plugs/etc, then you'll need to dry it all out. Compressed air can work well here, as long as you don't blast it right down the guts of the dizzy.
  14. Generally it is to space the hinges on the bonnet up with some washers, but I think there is another way.
  15. If you go through Brad on Twincam.info, you could get a full set of KYB Excel Gs and low springs (he does Lovells, Kings, Whiteline and a few others) for about $850 delivered to your door, which is a pretty good saving on what you could get either direct or from Autobarn etc. Haven't got a swaybar myself through him though (stock ones are still fine for me), but I think they're only about $200 or so.
  16. The words Seca and sedan contradict each other - the Seca is the liftback/hatch, the sedan is, well, the sedan. But apart from that, what you have mentioned is pretty much the standard basic way to mod an AE112, I'd suggest getting new shocks along with the springs (KYB Excel Gs are the best cheap option).
  17. The problem wouldn't be the calipers, rather the struts themselves. Later model Corollas have got a bit more room but AE82s do tend to have strut-rubbing issues if you don't get the offset spot-on.

Why do you think the thermostat isn't opening in the car? I'd be more inclined to think that either the temp switch or the wiring to the fan isn't working, because a car will get hot enough to open the thermostat _easily_, and if it doesn't open then the car will overheat very quickly (as there is NO cooling being performed). Take the temp switch out and do the same stove-top trick with the thermometer as you do with the thermostat, and check that you get switching (either +12V going to ground or vice versa) at the right temperature
  19. Those aren't extractors, just what the normal manifold looks like if you take the heatshield off. And I'm glad I've got extractors :P
  20. All my cars already have names (as is shown in my sig), but if I had to pen a verb/adjective/non-personal noun to each of them, I'd give them the following AE102 - underrated KE55 - lovable AE82 - bitsa ST162 - comforting
  21. Hmm, doubt you'd find that style elsewhere, Cressidas etc will be similar but they ran a different stud pattern (4x114.3 and then 5x114.3 compared to the SV21 5x100, which is really only shared by FWD Celicas)
  22. Won't be a CSi if it's got the 7A, only Conquest and up had the 1.8 whilst the CSi was stuck with the 4AFE (and rear drum brakes too, easy way to tell).
  23. Nice pickup for $700, which model is it? Still prefer the 102 sedans over the hatches, but that's because I'm biased :P What spec is it by the way? If it's an RV then you've hit the jackpot, they have the best interior by far (although doesn't look like it from the one blurry interior photo)

Aircon. Power steering and air-con were both options on Twincams, so chances are you saw one without aircon at the wreckers.
