Question for those who lowered their Aurion
DJKOR replied to DKzr6's topic in Aurion / TRD Aurion Club
The questions you need to ask are: - how much you are willing to give up on ride comfort and do you favour looks over handling - how much you want to lower it - how much are you willing to spend In my opinion, by far the best and most simple handling mods you can do to your Aurion are the front strut brace and rear sway bar. How large were you planning on going. I would suggest 19 inch maximum if you are after good handling. It all comes down to how much you want to spend. You can have good style and great performance, but it won't come cheap. -
Yeah, it's a little old (I remember seeing this quite a while ago) but the other night I brought it up at one of the meets, so I thought I'd post it here. Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!

That is true. I was surpirsed at how nice the roads were there. However, the one area the Aurion really shines in is it's handling. When your driving a large car with really nice handling, it is such a nice feeling as it's not completely natural. Canberra may have good roads, but it is missing some windy mountain roads. P.S. Like your last part of your signature 1stKill.

I think his reply may involve the letters 'Q' and 'R'. Don't worry; if you're not willing to take it to the track, I'll set the benchmark for us Aurion's.
-
It's the bragging rights that make it all that more worth it Don't worry, you'll need to head back again once I beat you. I'm only going to take one more night at the drags though until I get some new front rotors and pads. On the last run yesterday, I'm sure they weren't too happy. ... and then with those new rotors and pads, I think it will be time to set a benchmark at QR.

Ceramic brakes and performace rotors
DJKOR replied to chosen_f8's topic in General Toyota & Other Car Discussions
I'd definitely upgrade your rotors since it will complement your extra stopping power more than the standard rotors. I probably wouldn't go for the cross-drilled rotors as you will probably never have a need for it. As well, I hear that cross-drilled rotors eat through your pads quicker and have more of a tendency to crack when really going hard out. One good thing to do as well is to look into methods of improving brake cooling. That will help as well. -
I doubt the Aurion will be able to crack into the high 13's. Unless of course you strip the entire interior and run on bare minimum fuel. Otherwise you will need to work on the engine a little. Any more Ultra Racing gear made for the Aurion isn't going to help either with the times. I'm confident that I can beat Rowan. Even by 0.01. I like to be a little competitive sometimes. Maybe if I take a second longer to work on my launch as well since I was also interested in keeping my reaction time low on the night. All in all though Rowan, if you do have any engine power gains, you'll need them since you got heavier rims..... can you sense the jealously. I might just head to the test and tune on Wednesday now then.

Service Manuals - Please now refer to the FAQ's
DJKOR replied to Aurion ZR6's topic in Aurion / TRD Aurion Club
Since I had a second spare, I have put all the service manuals into a ZIP file for one simple download without waiting for each one. The download is 224.7MB however. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CKKWYAJT -
That is around the right price. I'm just saying that it is pricey when you can get one made up by the right guys for at least half of that. That said, it comes with a K&N filter and the heat shield. Even with the price it is, I would still consider it. But it's only really for the note. It doesn't have a noticeable gain.

From the sounds of how you are trying to explain it, it seems it was never like this before so therefore it is something playing up. It could possibly be the actuators or the control unit itself. Otherwise, I would just be thinking along the lines of the safety feature where you press unlock once to unlock the drivers door, then press it again within a few seconds to unlock the other doors. My car came default to unlock all doors on the first press, but I had Toyota change it to the other since I'm mainly the only driver and it is safer that way. But yours sounds to be a fault from the way I read it. In addition to the actuators and control units, the door locks themselves may be a little more difficult to move inside and may need some extra grease. If they get difficult to move, then the actuators may not have enough force to unlock them.

Saying that reminds me of a clip I saw ages ago. This was when Break.com was known as Big-Boys. Man I have some random crap saved on my PC. Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!

You just need to ask for a 07+ Camry V6 K&N filter (if you order from the US, which is where I'd order mine from). If you want to be specific, the product code is: 33-2326. Lower resonator removal is simple. Since I didn't take photos, I'll direct you to a thread over in the States that has the steps: as promissed.. Lower Intake Resonator removal DIY As for removing the upper resonator, you will need to make something to fit in it's place. I did so with a 22 degree bend of 3 inch stainless steel then I drilled two holes in it (one for the crankcase ventilation, one for some vacuum line) then put some rubber grommets in to seal it. Then I bought some reinforced silicone hose and joined it all up. A bit of effort to get it done, but it sounded nice afterwards. If Drew manages to replicate them and then sell them, you would be able to fit it yourself since it is that simple. I'm tempted to get one, but I've never been a fan of oiled filters. That would do the trick. A bit on the pricey side but it is made pretty good. I was considering that as well.

I am vehicle 816. The only run that I was against Rowan was the first one. That time slip was for my 3rd run, and that time I was up against an XR6. We weren't really matched for the drags as the first 3 runs are just trials so you know which bracket to enter should you wish to do so. I don't know the origins of 'COMP CAMS' and 'ROCKET', but the COMP CAMS lane is on the left, and the ROCKET lane is on the right. So in that third run, you can see I was in the COMP CAMS lane. The track is 1/4 mile and that time is indicated by 'E.T' (Elapsed Time) underneath the 1000ft time. The trap speed is located just after that and shows the speed you were going at the 1/4 mile end. My car was running with the upper resonator back in place (forgot to put the straight pipe back after my 60k service the night before) and with my Varex open which is just essentially a stock exhaust with the rear mufflers running as 2.5 inch straight through. Wait for Rowan's.

Hey. Sorry to revive the old thread, but I think the time is appropriate; plus I'm giving Rowan an indication that he needs to post here when he gets the chance. The good 'ol Aurion is still holding up strong. Last night Rowan and I took ours to the drags (my first time, Rowan's second) and were able to obtain some revised figures. My best run was my third one which was 14.397s @ 98.06mph Rowan on the other hand... well, where are you?

Chance to vent about idiotic drivers
DJKOR replied to 2008camrydriver's topic in General Toyota & Other Car Discussions
OMG. I could just go on forever with stuff like this. Pretty much every single time I go out driving I come across crap drivers, and nearly all of the things mentioned above. My pet hate are just ones that just stay in the right lane holding everyone up. Even when there have come to a point where they can easily move into the left lane and they still don't. Everyone else then overtakes them in the left lane and they still don't get the point. I have a whole list of things, but just bringing it up adds some extra stress. One thing I notice a lot of as well are people that have their mobile on speaker phone while driving, but you can see them hold the phone close to their face because they can't hear it. It completely defeats the purpose. Do they really think that doing that is legal when compared to holding it up to your ear when not on speaker phone? Seriously, drivers are just getting worse and worse. It's shocking. And all this talk about speeding, on many roads I drive especially the highway, I can be going 10-15km/h over the limit and that is just to keep up with a majority of the traffic. -
Well, that was a fun couple of hours. That was my first time to race at the drags so it was definitely an experience for me. On my first run, I didn't realise how grippy the track was and didn't really put my foot down at first. Rowan said that I should be able to plant it fine, so the times got better after. Unfortunately for me though, Rowan's last run beat me good, so I didn't quite come out of this as the winner amongst us two. Anyways, these were my times: Run 1: 14.629 @ 97.95mph, RT 1.058s Run 2: 14.519 @ 98.17mph, RT 0.931s Run 3: 14.397 @ 98.06mph, RT 0.690s After that 3rd run, I was thinking of going for one more but it would have taken a while before I could do it. My brakes were feeling pretty crap anyways so it was probably best not to. You'll need to wait to hear Rowan's figures.

+1. And it performs pretty damn good considering the car that it is and it's target audience.

I feel good to know that I was there to support the Toyota, especially for the Aurion guys. I think they give it a thumbs up: I feel all hyped up for a track day now.

No lights, not response from headunit?
DJKOR replied to iVaz's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
If your willing and don't think you will mess anything else up, try looking behind your glove box. That is a fairly common place to put the other fuse panel. Sometimes you can access it from behind a panel underneath, or you may need to take the glovebox out. -
If you want power folding mirrors, you HAVE to replace your mirrors. No Aurion or Camry in Australia comes out of the factory with that feature.

I just got off the phone with Rowan. He had spoken with someone earlier and reckons that if you were still up to get some times, we can still go tonight before all the racing starts at 7pm. That's about the gist of it that I got from him. He just asked for me to post this to see if anyone is interested still for tonight. Either way, I think the two of us are going to head there to get some times. I'm not sure how it all works... does anyone else. On the site it said something like Vehicle Testing from lane 2. Would that be where we go?

Yeah Drew, that was an epic meet up. I was still smelling the campfire when I woke up this morning. Glad I was able to catch up with the guys in front at the beginning of the trip so that I managed to be where I belong, hehehe. I'm pretty sure Soube was very impressed by the abilities of this car, especially when it had a full tank of fuel and 3 people inside. It was always nice when you get to the next stop-over and have to wait a minute or two for everyone else to catch up. And to top it all off, the entire night used just under 30 litres of fuel.

LOL at this thread. Sorry but from the sounds of it, you need some first hand assistance into basic electronics 101. You would be better off if you could get someone to physically show you how things work in general, that way you can do basic troubleshooting and not wreck anything. You head unit doesn't turn on or light up because it is getting no switched power. Your amp doesn't turn on most likely because its trigger is wired in to the same wiring as your head unit switched power. Your head unit most likely is not getting power because of a blown fuse. I would pop your bonnet and inspect the fuses that are marked to indicate interior, radio, dome, acc, etc (no harm in checking them all) and if they are blown, replace them. As well, there are some fuses in a fuse panel inside the car and it won't hurt checking those as well. Checking fuses is a quick and simple process, and for problems like this, are a very simple fix. -
Well before I know it, my Friday has turned into a hectic mess. First things first, my car is going in for it's 60,000km service at 4pm at Southside Toyota in Wooloongabba. Yeah I know it's a late thing, but with work tying me down, this is about the most convenient time to do it. As it stands, it's at 60,400km and if I don't service it now, it will probably be up to 62,000km by the time I get the chance to service it next. I am going there super early so I can try to be first cab of the rank. They expect the full service to take 2.5 hours, but since I do my own rotations and have it balanced elsewhere, I told them not to do that which should cut a fraction of time off the service. Hopefully they should get this all done by 7:30pm at the latest. If that is the case, this gives enough time for me to pick up Drew, then you Evan, then go to Tanah Merah. If the service doesn't go to plan, then meeting at Tanah Merah would be the better option because it's only 23 minutes for me to get there from Toyota.
