  1. trust me you will start to notice late model wagons & vans parked on nature strips more.

they're way too obvious IMO. who would park an 09 model holden captiva in a fleet colour (ie. white) with ridiculously dark tint on the side of a highway.

and yeah i know its the point to make their presence known. but anonymity may work better. drivers see one of them in a 60km/h zone, and drive past it at 40km/h, and then fang it back up to 80km/h 100m up the road.

i'd be more cautious and drive properly if i knew any car could be a speed camera.

  2. 215's are fatter than the 205, so your tyre will bulge out slightly.

apart from that, the rolling diamater on the 215's is greater than the 205's. so although you could still fit them on the standard rims with no problems, your speedo would be out and the boys in blue could have fun with compliance depending on which state youre in

  3. this is just your imagination. when you remove the oil dipstick, it's only a thin film covering the tip, so it is more transparent and appears cleaner.

likewise, think of the ocean. in some parts (shallow parts) its clear, yet in the deeper parts its dark and you cant see ****.

and its impossible for the oil in the dipstick tube to not mix with the sump oil. the tip of the dipstick goes into the oil sump pan.

  4. at 80,000kms i would recommend a gear box oil change (including diff). i would recommend against having it flushed though.

you should replace it either at recommended service intervals (obviously), when it is discoloured such as in your case, or it has a burnt smell.

  5. i had dunlop sp300e's on mine, which lasted around 60,000km with occasional hooning. they were $180 each, and i thought they were a fabulous tyre. when i sold the car (and to get the rwc) i only had to replace the front tyres, and the rear tyres were still good.

i'd never tried any other tyre on it though so can't honestly comment on others

  6. i only use autoglym on mine. tried to give meguiars a go, but i dont think it stood up to autoglym in both looks and durability.

nice, just with the AG stuff, have you used to hi definition wax before? seems like a qood wax? not sold over the counter here in perth thou :(

yep, and its bloody awesome! its a big initial cost (around $150 from memory) however lasts a fair while and looks fabulous. so hydrophobic i think the car could almost float on water, lol.

when i first bought my tub of HD wax, it was over a year ago when no one in australia stocked it, so i had to get it shipped from the UK. now i think autobarn stocks it pretty reguarly. but you dont need to use much. in one year (and over 3 cars its been applied to, 2 of these cars waxed 3 times just for good measure) i've still got 2/3 of the tub left.

  7. Mudman, you've gotta spot digging up old threads!

not to contribute to the whole 'bringing old threads up again' thing, but andrew i must say i am quite jealous.

i had my camry sportivo for almost 3 years and was looking high and low for one of those. as soon as i sold mine, this one popped up and you snapped it up! :P

  8. for the facelight guys, the "small mod" involves cutting out a section of your inner guard. the back part of the headlights on the facelight is fatter than the pre-facelift, and you need to cut a section out in order to fit and cater for the lack of clearance. so a hacksaw is required.

    just an fyi.

  9. i think it just depends upon the ambient temperature of the air (and thus cooling efficiency), as well as the engine temperature. when i had my v6 sportivo, the coolant level used to fluctuate all the time depending on operating conditions however no coolant was ever actually lost.

even in the hotter months there used to be excess coolant sitting on the outside of the reservoir indicating overflow.

i would say this is completely normal as i never found anything wrong with the cooling system, but other people may think differently.

  10. from memory, it is recommended to be 'inspected' around the 150,000km mark. however, as mbruce said, it is a timing chain in the 2az, with the whole idea being minimal servicing costs and longevity so you shouldn't be having any issues with it at this odometer reading.

  11. spotted a silver corolla this monring coming out of thomastown train station carpark. was lowered with rims, not sure if it was a sportivo or a cleverly disguised levin cause it was debadged. driver saw me and his facial expression was like "whaaa?"

not sure if its everyone from here or not!

  12. HIRO, you just backed up my argument. The legislation clearly gives 2 different sets of lights. My "driving" lights are exactly as described in the legislation and yet the cops fined me. Explain that??

And white light DOES NOT penetrate fog. Next time I drive to grafton at 1am i'll take you with me and you'll see what I mean.

i think if you changed your wording to "And white light DOES NOT appear to penetrate fog" we would all be saved a physics lesson :P
