OK Guys... little help

Doesnt matter now, i wont go back there unless i really have to

I wanted to ask, with servicing, i know a mechanic that does new car servicing, like the stamp and all, will that matter when it comes down to warranty? I would rather him service the car for me because i know he does a really good job and he does it at the right price. I just dont want to find out later that its voided my warranty

I t won't void your warranty but it WILL void your extended warranty, if you are not concerned about that then go for it, I have a mate who has his Mitsu serviced by a mate mechanic and he is always happy with the job and has still had warranty repairs carried out.

I didnt bother with the extended warranty. The most that ive had a car for is 4 years, so getting the extended warranty isnt really worth it

Fair enough, in that case mate go anywhere you like for services, Toyota can not do anything about it but I am not sure about the genuine parts thing, you might want to check the requirements your mechanic "might" have to use genuine toyota parts.

My GF works in woollongong so she takes it down for me and I get the Clio Sport for the day :). I have to have mine done there because I got the extended warranty and I plan on keeping the car for 6 - 10 years :)

That reminds me, must book it in next Thur for 10,000 service :)

Another thing they do for me is my GF drives down there, drops the car off, they then drive her to work and pick her up after work. And service the car while she is at work, Dunno who you dealt with I went through Michael and Derek, they were really good to me and Jim from service is the guy who does the running around driving my GF to work.

Yeah they offered to take me to work when i had the 1000 km service, i didnt start for a couple of hours so i just sat there and waited. Like i said their after sales service has been very good, their presales wasnt too good.

How does the clio sport go? Whats the comparison between the Sportivo and the Clio?

0-100 its 7.something a bit faster than the rolla and its a very torquey little motor, the car is only 1000 kilos and has a 2 litre motor in it, as much as I love my car, the Clio Sport beats it performance and handeling wise.

The seats are suede, the stereo comes standard with stick remote, the car has a lot going for it but they are $38,000 new.

All in all I was looking at buying one at one time but a ) its too small for my needs and B ) its a 2 door, the stivo won me on its 4 door design.

The Clio Sport is a wonderful little piece of machinery but not to everyones liking being the size and all.

My GF reckons the car is only cute because its so butt ugly, like a boxer dog or something equaly cutesy ugly :P

Thats the thing, Motor says that the Sportivo does the 0 - 100 Km sprint in 8.4 but im certain that its quicker than that. Has anyone done a time trial? I know there was that artical in that Greek magazine but how acurate would they be?

I have done my own 0-100 testing a few times. Nothing too technical, just using a stop watch with someone else in the car and me yelling stop when I hit the 100 mark. I have definately beaten the 8.4 mark but can't seem to really beat the 8sec mark consistently.

Anyone else tried this?

ok guys as for the fix on my car well its now a few days later and the noises are back :angry: the rattle noise or cables moving around noise is back and the noise which had gone away after the last time i had it in there the one where it makes like a grinding noise when changing from 2->3 is also back man i got no idea if toyota even knows what they are doing. I will be ripping into them on Monday :( AGAIN for the 8TH time :angry:

As for time trials on the sportivo i have 2 OFFICIAL tests carried out by two seperate companies and countries. In both cases the sportivo was being tested against the civic type-r (lucky this isnt the 1 that comes 2 AUS - Jap spec). It took me like 2 months to find these so i hope they are appreciated

One was done by a magazine in finland and below is a link to the results. As you will see it states the sportivo does 0 -100 in 7.7 sec :D and other figures also.

The other was done by top gear in england. This one i had to buy for 3 pounds = $9. In this test they got 7.8 sec :D

I found an article on the net in another language which once it was translated (thx 2 google) basically stated toyota realesed slower figures to get the car put in a lower grade insurance range. This is just a rumour though.

I think it may also be due to the fact that when the car is new the gears etc etc are still tight from just being manufactored and cant be pushed whereas in europe they have had the car for a few months longer than us thus getting one thats run in might be easier. Why do i say this its because when the integra and celica both came out some how magically over 6 months motor and wheels some how managed to shaved 0.5 sec using stock cars :blink: hmmm hows that possible ???? Other than a re-test with run in cars.

SO WHAT CAN I SAY...........WE HAVE a SUB 8 SEC CAR :D ...... it has some issues which toyota has NO IDEA how to fix :angry: btw im now into my 4th month of having my car. So i've been arguing with them for 4 bloody months :angry:

You guys all worrying about warranty. Here's my story (it eventually relates to Toyota). Sorry its so long but i couldn't help myself

I had a Pulsar once that I only serviced at Nissan (probably by their dodgy apprentice mechanics - no offense to the good apprentice mechanics! ;) ). It was bought from a Canberra Nissan dealer and serviced at another Canberra Nissan dealer that was closer to where I lived. Then I moved to Syd and serviced it at the local Nissan dealer. Probably the most expensive thing i've ever done! The Pulsar broke down late one night on Paramatta Rd, got towed by Nissan dealer, "fixed" the next day, only to break down in peak hour traffic in near Central Station (Syd) the same day, got towed again by Nissan to a dealer, and took a few days to fix. I didn't get a courtesy car and had to pay for taxis, and also the cost of three return trips to Canberra/Syd. On top of that, because none of the three dealers would accept responsibility, i had to pay for parts (but not labour) even though the car was under warranty. Even with a friend working within one of these dealerships I couldn't get any money back for taxi, travel or parts.

So for my brand new Celica, its never been serviced at a dealer other than for the free 1000km, and two warranty repairs. For the first year, i serviced my Celica at a Repco dealer in Canberra even though I live in Sydney. I absolutely trusted that mechanic but unfortunately he retired. So for the last two years of warranty, I only serviced the car myself. And I was still able to make warranty claims without a single stamp in my service manual.

Most warranty claims are common problems - mine were. If they have a solution - great. But as Sharmz says, if they're a design flaw, the fix is only temporary and the problems may come up again. What do you do if the Toyota dealer can't fix it properly under warranty? Well, I'd find the most likely cause on forums like these and probably take the car to a proper mechanic or specialist and just pay the cost.

Under this warranty system and structure of a Toyota manufacturer and dealerships, I don't think there's any easier way.

BTW I remember reading in my Toyota warranty that the only real requirement is to service the car as detailed in the service manual. I'm sure there's no requirement to use "genuine" parts either. That's why UltraTune, Shell, and Repco etc offer under warranty servicing. Check your warranty! B)

XOOM thanx for the info!!! It looks like there was a comprehensive test done. And you cant argue with the facts. I also have to admit that when i first got the car i was not impressed by the performance, but week by week the performance improved, after i did the 2000 km and took it into lift, i found that a better sound came from the engine even at lower revs and the car felt like it pulled more through the rev range.

Here is a reply i got from a site that i questioned as they reckon the rolla can do 6.7 sec 0-100

Well, tests have been undertaken at different days with different cars, so differences are quite likely due to this (air temp, asphalt temp etc.). Furthermore, the gearbox of the Corolla might be different (gear ratios) from the one of the Celica. 6.7s for a 192hp and 1200kg car is ineed quite quick but possible. The Cooper S Works with 200hp and 1250kg achieves 6.7s to 100km/h too.

Hey folks,

I'm finally picking up my stivo tmrw or sat...I was just going to ask u all what i should be looking out for when i pick up the car... Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. It's been a long 3 months wait and i can't believe it has finally arrived..

I just can't wait to drive it out of the dealership.. :D :D
