Suspension Setup

hey guys,

i've been looking through past posts about suspension setup and what to add to improve handling, but i'm still unsure what to do and get.

currently my car's stone motherless stock. i'm thinking of lowering the car, but springs alone would affect the stock shocks so i assume it's better to change both springs/shocks. can you guys recommend anything? i'm thinking whiteline at the moment.

as for the front/rear struts/swaybars, what's the go for BFYB bits? from what i read, the best option for a tight budget is to get a front strut and rear swaybar. is it really necessary to get the rear strut and front swaybar? I don't thrash my car too much or do much circuit work in it, but what i really want is a big improvement on the car's handling, reduce the annoying bodyroll and improve cornering speed. what about the polyurethean bushes? can anyone help me on this? again, for the front strut and rear swaybar i'm looking at whitelien again.

sorry if this sounds dodgy, i'm still learning about how the car works.

Whiteline has the best BFYB handling systems. As you can see i am getting them myself but this comes down to personal preference. With suspension i trust Whiteline products because i have used them on other cars before and they WORK. I would suggest you get what i am getting and if you have enough cash get the shocks as well. I am leaving the shocks for later as it is still intact. I would like to see how the stock shocks hold up. It is a pity to chuck them out because they are 40 percent stiffer than normal Corolla shocks. I would leave the front swaybar standard because the stock bar is not tiny and it is difficult to replace. The stiffer and heavier rear bar will improve turn-in and reduce understeer and bodyroll. Do the rear first and see how you like it. Poly urethane bushes are good but do that with front swaybar if you are getting it, otherwise leave it. Screaminroll has a Whiteline setup with Whiteline front and rear TRD strutbars, Whiteline rear swaybar, spings and Koni shocks. See pics of his car handle at Wakefield in the Meets/Events section. My car is the Black one with huge roll!

cheers for that. just wondering, what stuff you getting from whiteline for your car?

from what i know, front struct and rear sway bar from whiteline's about $400 all up. do you know the pricing for the springs and shocks?

Hey mate,

I got Strutbar for $179, Swaybar for $190, was quoted $220 before. Springs are $160 a pair. Remember to get the camber bolt and if you like the front and rear bump stops which costs me another $180 altogether. You can find more prices from the Whiteline website. Yellow Koni Shocks are over $1000 for a full set i think, might have to ask Dave (Screaminrola). You can get TRD Shocks for $800 but not sure if it would work with Whiteline springs.

There is a complete handling kit that was made for the Rolla developed by the Bates team. The kit consists of Springs and Koni adjustable shocks. ILIVFOR6 has them fitted to his car and he is very happy with them. If you ring Tyrepower in Essendon (Melbourne) talk to Russell or Scott they maybe able to tell you what the kit consists of and the part no for the kit otherwise let me know I can find out for you. The kit costs $1750 (I think) fitted to the car.
