I know this has probably been discussed a million times before but i need to know for sure

Is woolworths fuel the same as caltex?

Your input would be greatly appreciated :D

Yes, Up here all the Caltex have been changed to Woolworths. I think Woolworths owns Caltex

I highly doubt Woolies owns Caltex. It would just be an alliance like Coles and Shell.

As for the conversions to Woolies, they went around buying out independants before all this supermarket fuel thing started and converted them.

Sorry, but you are all wrong. :P

Shell Australia is now owned by Coles - period.

Caltex and Woolworths have a joint venture contract which is set to expire end of this year/early next year.

Caltex and Woolworths do sell different fuel - There are 3 different types of caltex/woolies petrol stations.

1. There are Caltex ONLY stations - these sell good quality Caltex fuel.

2. There are Caltex-Woolworths stations, recognisable by the fact that they were originally Caltex stations - also sell quality Caltex fuel.

3. There are Woolworths-Caltex stations, recognisable by the fact that they were originally Woolworths stations (or bought out independants like Dave said) - Fuel is normally whatever they can find for cheap at the time.

Therefore, IMO 1+2 are fine, 3 is a no no.

Sadly - Micky Tee should not have said that you are wrong - My reference is as an ex Shell Multi Site Operator and Distributor.

Shell Australia is alive and well - Coles operates all Shell Owned outlets as a Franchisee of Shell - Shell own the properties. Basically Shell handed over all retailing to Coles.

Caltex is exactly the same with Safeway except that Safeway did a deal and leases on top of the Caltes sites some 78 OPutlets from Liberty. Also as a differerence to Coles, Safeway built at their own cost a number of Outlets.

But they still are wrong??? You just clarified my point further. Shell Australia no longer exist in the petrol retail trade, which is what this discussion is about??

Thanx for the input. I think i will take micky tees advise and just not use the local woolworths station as it was originally just a woolworths station. I will stick with the caltex premium. :D

Sorry Mickey Tee - There are still in excess of 1,800 Shell Outlets, around Australia who are not operated by Coles - Just for exactness - Shell still trades Retail with these mostly independent dealers. Another point is that at some time in the future the Shell/Coles deal may fall over and as Shell own the properties they could come back to those outlets.

For those who are Capital City Centric, they may not see these other Shell Outlets.

My understanding is that every litre of fuel sold at Safeway Outlets is Caltex as well as Caltex accepting Safeway dockets at their major outlets. Caltex has the Safeway contract and the pumps are branded Caltex.

Anyway the fuel you buy relates to the placement of the Refinery. In Victoria it is all Shell or Mobil, NSW it is Caltex or Shell, in WA most all is BP and South Australia who knows! Qld BP/Caltex. Just drop in a little additive (maybe)

This does not clarify the point 100% but helps understand

Coles Express operates most of Shell's retail service station network in Australia. (But don't think that it owns Shell)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_Australia

Coles Express: re branded Shell service stations offering convenience stores and fuel products. Before Coles Myer Ltd took over Shell service stations, Coles Express was the name used for smaller, inner-urban Coles supermarkets which are now known as Coles Central.
