I'm thinking of taking a bit of a gamble and purchase an OEM sat nav unit from the U.S. (see link here: http://www.oemvalue.com/toyota2.htm).

They sell for around $1500 U.S. plus P&H of course. Roughly half the price of what they're worth here.

Can anyone see any reasons why this unit won't be compatible with my Aurion? I know it will come standard with U.S. maps but if I purchase a disk with Aussie maps, will it load the maps without a problem and work fine? Or is there more to it? I plan on sending an email to the sellers shortly and ask them the question too

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like it forms part of an already existing JBL system (maybe AMP?). Looks too risky to me.

Do you know if the OEM wiring is at the rear of your existing radio? because there are about 10 different pins required to run this type of unit!!! not worth the time, better off getting the after market Toyota dealer version, at least you know you are going to receive your car back with a navigation unit installed, and without all the hassles of sorting the wiring out, plugs etc.

Mmmmmm.....thanks for the reply guys. Does sound a bit risky.

I really wish Toyota Australia wasn't so gready by charging an arm and a leg for their unit. Not really sure what I'm going to do?

These aftermarket ones might be the next best thing, what do you guys reckon?

Do yourself a favour and go buy a Garmin Nuvi or simmilar quallity!!..At least they wont charge for upgrades, wont cost an arm and a leg, detail is heaps better and more user friendly!!..My two bobs worth:)..

One more thing:), can use it from one car to another being portable..

Portable sounds good unless you live in Sydney and that translates to stealable. it becomes a pain taking them witrh you everywhere you park the car that might eb a bit ddodgy.

Had there new sat nav unit (cant remeber for which vehicles though). It was like a radio and everything, with a portable unit built into it (so it like looks like its not portable but it is!) You can like take it out and all. Ill try find the mag, its laying around somewhere.

Hide it under your seat and make sure theres no suction marks on the windscreen, should be ok...

As for that new portable thing from Toyota, looks like Poo or something that fishingboats use to track fishes, Id rather get the Pioneer one and probably cheaper and better SQ through the unit itself.

I bought a portable one for my missus, it's very nice, clear and has a lot more functions - I can upgrade within one year (stll 8 months to go) w/o paying anything. Just getting new map and speedcam upto the end of Jan2008 last week. It can tell more precisely the turning point (example: Turn right and then second left on xxxxxxx road ...). Even it has 4.3" screen but still too small.
