Heater Core Gone, Need Help

Recommended Posts

ahh the joys of using non-genuine coolant...

My manuals dont cover removal of the heater core, but I've done it quite a few times now.

Remove all of the under-dash acrylics, including the center console, then remove the two vertical metal dash supports that go from the tunnel to the dash support bar. You will have a loom in the way but that can be unclipped from the plugs and removed from the dash support's with needle nose pliers to swing the loom out of the way.

once all that's out of the way you will need to use a long extension with a 10mm socket to get to the 10mm nuts around the perimeter of the heater. Dont forget to remove the heater hoses from the engine bay side, once the spring clips are removed, it sometimes helps to use some pliers to grip the hose and twist it on the heater core tubes to help release them.

With all that done, struggle for a while to remove the heater core from the firewall without spilling too much coolant on the carpet etc.

It's a lot easier to remove with the dash pad and dash support bar removed, but that takes an hour more to get out of the way.

Worthwhile flushing the core with plain water so if you do spill anything it's just water, and will dry normally?
