Lo again,

When I dropped my car off this morning for the 60K service, I asked the tech if it was possible to install the CAI from TRD on my vehicle without losing my warranty...

He said to steer clear from these kind of things till I get over the warranty period...?

I thought I read somehwre in the forum that Toyota installs this for you as it's them that makes and supports the thing...?

another thing that bothered me slightly is that you are only to install brake pads at Toyota, as other pads would void your warranty...?

How much water do these arguments hold, does anyone know...?

most dealers dont even know who TRD are thats why they say err, hrm the TRD CAI is not going to effect your warranty, there was a thread on here a while back where this topic was discussed

I've worked in the industry for a very long time..and I know for a fact that most manufacturers will look (quite hard too) for reasons not to do a warranty repair...

A dealer can "say" anything they want..if it's not in writing it's not worth a cracker..when it comes to repair time the warranty clerk will go by the book, and if a cars been modified (even TRD stuff) beyond standard, and they dont feel inclined to do the repair, you'll be on your own buddy.

I guesstimate a blow up rebuild for a 2ZZ-fe done at a Toyota dealer would be upwards of $10k....(based on the same job for a Camry 5yrs ago at $7500)

Is it worth the risk..??

Thanks for your comments. It just seems so conflicting i mean i asked again my Toyota dealer that i now get my car serviced at and they said not to worry if anything does go wrong with the engine (i have a CAI fitted) it will be coveredf. They said that they have to prove that the CAI caused the prob. It is only if something happened to the actual CAI it would not be covered. How do we get clarification on this matter. As you said if it is not in writing how will it stand up.

I am sorry to make people think twice about installing a CAI on there new sportivo's or corolla's as once you have it on you will not take it off - guaranteed wow factor.

Feel free to respond guys of other things you have been told by service dealers.

i'm just adding to the statistics here... my dealer said any mods I have would void the warranty of that particular section

unless, it's a sportivo accessory, that was fitted by any toyota dealer (ie sportivo springs, etc.)

anything else, including TRD, is a no no

I'm 3 months past my warranty already, the urge to mod has worn off (phew, i have money in my bank still! hehe)

It may be a pain in the neck but before I take my car in to be serviced every 10k, I am gonna put the air box back on. If I only do this every 6 - 8 months it aint too bad.

If my motor was to blow up, I would put the airbox back on before getting it towed to my dealership.

As for the exhaust - they would have a tough time proving a cat back system caused any serious damage at the Tribunal.

Toy SA say that any aftermarket part will void the warrenty on that particular section of the car. I have heard some say that they will accept TRD parts though as these are approved Toy parts. I on the other hand will be removing my CAI when I service ... B)

Maybe an e-mail to Toyota SA should be sent with the specifics.

If I look at my "book of life" (SA version of service history), there are no specific exclusions, but also no specific mention of parts to be replaced under warranty, which leaves both parties in a "grey" area.

I can't see why something that enhances performance in the small amounts of CAI should make you lose your warranty at all.

I'm sure that performance filters are built to the same or higher standards than the ones Toyota uses...?

Besides, after my 60K service, they didn't even replace my air filter, which tells me that they don't mind how much performance/fuel economy you lose because of faulty/dirty/saggy filters.

Anyways, I tend to agree with the "invisible" CAI implementation...

Even it it means 30 minuts hard labour before each service... :D

You don't need to have your pads changed by Toyota, but Toyota won't cover any damage unless you've used Toyota pads.

Its like Ultra Tune who say that you don't need to go to a dealer for servicing, as they do it according to manufacturer's specs, however, Toyota's specs include a Toyota oil filter, for example, where Ultra Tune use an equivalent Ryco filter.

If your engine is damaged due to a faulty Ryco filter, you can bet your bottom dollar that Toyota won't even look at it!

ok my dad (cos i was in bris ) asked my service department about a cai, and he said that they will only void the warranty if they find that the cai contributed 2 the problem, so is u hydrolic lock ur motor from suckin in water kiss ur warranty goodbye, but that said when my car goes in 2 the dealer its tottaly standard every time, doesnt take long 2 do and untill i see something in writting from toyota aus ill keep doin so
