Does anyone know the threshold that triggers the fuel warning light to come on?

Mine seems to come on with approx 20ltrs left in the tank which is about 150+ kms of driving

I get nowhere near 150kms?! When mine comes on i have approx 40kms to empty. But, i drive her pretty hard too! lol average around 11.5lts/100km

dont know if this is right but i always had the impression that when the fuel light comes on u get bout 20km out of it on normal day driving. i think i read it somewhere but cannot remember where exactly

I actually asked a similar question to this before:

Fuel tank and gauge accuracy

And the Corolla guys asked as well:

Corolla Fuel guage?

After many, many more tanks of fuel and others claims to back it up as well, we have found that once the gauge needle is on empty and the 'Cruising Range' says '0km', you have about 10 litres left in the tank and can travel roughly another 70-80km. I find my fuel light comes on when my cruising range drops to about 30km or so and/or when the gauge needle reaches about 1/8.

yeah i just read through those 2 topics -- looks like a common thing among the toyota

Personally i think its a little stupid and annoying.

I can understand the light coming on with 10L left but not 20L

Even with 10L left in the tank you not going to hurt anything.

As i only have the base model i dont have a cruising range so i guess i'll just drive it till 600 - 650km on the clock before a refill. Kinda defeats the purpose of the fuel gauge.

I manage to get 545km and filled up this morning and only managed 52L in.

Bit of a relief coz i though i'd used way too much fuel for that distance.

Have never managed to put in more than 55L when filling up. I'll usually wait until the fuel warning light comes on and then drive for another 50km - have never been brave enough to go further.

Reassuring to know I've got plenty of km's left before actually needing to fill up...

Most I have ever put in was 67.6 litres. Now that was a fun thought realising that I had about 2.4 litres left in the tank when I went to fill up. Never going to do that again. Most times I drive it till empty and with 0km cruising range, take it for another 30-50km then refill. Usually only put in around 60-62 litres.

i fill mine up when it's just below 1/4 tank, and rarely get the fuel light coming on. when i do fill it, it takes around about 50-55 litres.

All my current cars (1 BMW 318i, 1 Vienta Grande, 1 Honda CR-V Sport and 1 Presara) have roughtly 100-130 kms to go after getting the light.
