my 2zz-ge losing power ?

Recommended Posts

hello fellos.... i got my corolla runx Z aero at june

when i use to time myself using in tip tronic mode i use to go from 0-100km/h in 7 secs flat official says 6.9 but allow 0.1 for human error and after all its a tiptronic

lately i timed it again its now up to 9 secs.... you guys think there is anything wrong with the car?

i toke it to miles toyota and all they said was everything was fine besides the spark plugs were i bit worn and charged me 90 bucks for it

and a tune up and... is all been done and it still 9 secs...

anybody got any idea where to look for to solve this prob ?

i would take a stab in the dark and say if it isnt the spark plugs, its perhaps the efi, ****ty coils, your brakes are binding, fuel filter is clogged, uneven cylinder compression or theres something in your exhaust system creating more back pressure.

check your transmission flud?

or or or!!!!

your stopwatch is crap :D

What do you mean by tiptronic mode?? Is your Runx automatic??

If its auto then I find a 0-100 in 7s flat a little hard to believe, I believe you would be doing low 8s. Either way a 9sec 0-100 is bad, unless its auto...

Try resetting your ECU, and maybe you got bad fuel...

****... so many things to check

yes mines an auto/ tiptronic one

fuel is good check- shell v power 95

stopwatch check definitely fine one was a seiko chromograph and one was a g shock both showed up same results

transmission?? dunno its only done 31000kms should be fine right?

MAF could b dirty thus decreasing performance?<=== can you be more percise sorry i am still a newbe

perhaps the efi, ****ty coils ?<=== can you be more percise sorry i am still a newbe

brakes are binding<= break was checked at service and 100% fine

fuel filter is clogged <= new one was replaced at service

uneven cylinder compression or theres something in your exhaust system creating more back pressure <= serviced said was fine but still..... weird

transmission fluid<= still dark pinkyish colour no burnt smell so should be good

how do i rest my ECU? please tell me thanks do i disconnect the batter or ?

the only thing i can think of now besides above is that my tyres are spining a lot before it gets grip of the road besides does tyres pay a big important part? they are still in the legal limit but not very grippy i must admit

Tyres are the difference between a 13 second pass and a 10 second pass. I'd say this is most likely the cause.

I'd really hate to say this, but I was curious with the performance of your car so I did some searching on the internet

Unfortunately an automatic 2zzge and with the even heavier corolla chasis, will at best allow you a 0-100 in approximately...8.5s or more....so that plus your slippery tyres will put you into the 9s bracket.

If your runx was a manual and returning those times, then there would be need for concern...

The problem is that the gear ratio of the automatic tranny is not designed to take advantage of the narrow power band of the 2zzge, even the manual transmission gear ratios are not good with theoretical impossibility of landing in lift from 1st gear to 2nd gear.

tyres..... <_< hm... any good suggestions for tyres?

P Zero-dragon?? pricey.. but are they really that good? i dunno never used it ?

or just Dunlop DZ101??

any suggestions guys?

sigh..... auto was put at 8.5 secs.... i regret buying an auto now... wonder how did the 7.x secs came out when i got the car? human error or optinum performance... o well thanks people:) now we know it should be the tyres

so what which one you guys used that think is pretty good as our 2zzge tend to eat the front tyres a lot!! and i mean A LOT!!

PS. how do we reset the ECU of the car :help:

To reset your ECU, simply disconnect the -ve connection to your battery and leave it there for 30mins before reconnecting.

I'm not sure, but I remember someone posting that if you pump your brake pedal after disconnection, you get rid of the 30min waiting period.

I have only had Toyo T1R's and they made a noticeble difference with regards to grip, I even felt the car was able to slow down quicker during braking in everyday driving. Recently checked them, and the only drawback is that they seem to wear out quicker, which is expected.

You should time the car from like 40 to 100 to eliminate the wheel spin error, then keep track of these times and see if the car is really getting slower. Does the car feel slower though or are you just judging from your watch?

toyo T1R... will get a quote of how much they cost in nz~

reseted the ECU today only big difference i noticed was that the gears now change a lot smoother from 1 to 2 which is a good thing before it keep getting stuck untill 3000 rpm now it changes at just over 2000rpm yay :) Cheers dude for helping me out
