S/C kit?

although i thought the 1zz mr2 wasn't available in aust.?

custom turbo kit will give more bang for buck than a supercharger kit, but both have been done on the spyders before, on the lotus too

All final gen MR2 spyders are 1zz.

2ZZ-GE swap man! Do iiiiit!

Otherwise, theres a TRD supercharger kit for the 1zz, prolly fit.

For the price of a 2zz + gearbox + headaches, turboing the 1zz is far cheaper and will net more powah. Plus if an engine goes its cheap as chips to replace. If you want it to last you can upgrade pistons and rods.

One of my customers at work has a MR2 Spyder and has done the turbo conversion and regularly races at Wakefield...

Pretty tight to get everything in there and has had a few issues but it all seems to be working well now...

i will have to try and track him down see his suggestions. i was thinking of lesser upgrades to start with . i mean supercharge and turbo are fairly obvious. and if i do either it changes the categorie i can race in. thought i would build up to things as i strip it and make all the carbon fibre panels etc.was hopeing for some input on staying NA. imight be doing this with a spyder but i picked up the write off and half cut at a good price . doing all the carbon work myself . so seeing where i can get some other gains after a new exhaust. which i will probably swap of the road car as its a remus one. what sort of $ looking at for the turbo conversion?

When i drove the spyder at a motorkhana day here in perth i found it fairly gutless to be honest. and i understand MR2's of all creeds are notoriously difficult to handle at the limit unless your really used to them. As a rally car i would say think again as a track car go for your life. I've had several rally cars over the years for actual rallying including datsun 1600 an escort RS2000, an AE86 and a subaru legacy. By far the best was the subaru but never have i encountered an MR rally car to be honest. Possibly they only last one race before making friends with tree's?

yeh i was thinking the same thing probably not a great idea. was thingking the handling would be great but didnt factor in the tail swing. the main emphassis was going to be track and hill climb but was toying with how it would go rally?. like you said not last too long even if only taking it relatively easy .which would be hard to do. and once i start getting the panels done dont wont to wreck them straight away, even if i can make another set. as for guts for me its about the handling, there not a drag car take one through some twisty roads and see the smile on your face at the other end. we had a guy that wanted a carbon body done for his lotus elise when i had the factory running, because he wanted to drag it and have the fastest in the world.TURKEY. i dont put all my work tools in the mr2 and i dont take my work car for drives on the weekend. its horses for courses.

I would tend to agree its power to weight that gives the big smile your getting, overpowering MR's is a mistake as old as the design they are very tail happy at the limit and tend to snap back or all the way around without any warning whatsoever. The biggest let down from the spyder i drove was the sequential gearbox which was umm a bit slow on the uptake. Compared to the aurion gearbox it feels like theres a pocket calculator doing the work instead of a computer.

Perhaps they fixed it in later models i wouldnt know.

no i have the 1st series, 2nd has 6 gears but still the same its not great but you learn to work around it. its not the same as a manual though. that might be another thing on the list further down the track.

I know of 2 MR2 rally cars, both SW20 model. One regularly visits the trees, The other isnt exactly the fastest thing, but looks good and sounds the part. Talking to the driver though, he says occasionally the car just throws uncontrollable oversteer.

I'm happy with my rally car :D

Pics of the RS200 wildfireatx???

got the new blue 2 last tue week. needs a new wheel bearing thats all . have to work out how to change it myself .get a bit more learned up on the mechanical side.it looks too good to strip down to race shame it cant be regoed. think i will swap all the panels onto the road car though like the nlook of the blue. and the black roof. then the red race seat wont look so bad either.
