Its ok when you are 18-20 yo and want to impress your 17 yo GF, but way too ricey and childish after that.

it's not really to my taste either mate but taking the time to actually tell everyone you don't like it is childish in itself... now i do remember a preety funny quote from another thread where you tried telling everyone that only a car with a turbro needs to have regular oil changes and "special" oil... maybe keeping the fingers off the keys would be a great choice.

I personally don't think it is ricey and childish if done right. That is if you get blue, keep it dim and just as a gentle highlight. Otherwise get white. I recon white footwell lighting is clean and nowhere near ricey.

Ive attached this here,

If your not keen on cutting or stripping the factory wiring, you can make a piggy back plug set to breech between the plug are are getting power from and the cluster.

You will need to source some plugs the same as the factory one (as ive already installed mine, i havent tried to track any down) Both a male and female plug.

Simply make up a simple "extension loom" run the wiring the same, but splice into the power wires we need, and connect in between the factory male and the cluster board.

Like this:

The two black wires head off to the SMD's.

This Pic has one wire missing, not sure if its an older model or its a ZR thing.

Anyways, you get the idea. Now no more nasty looks from your toyota technician when you go in for any electrical faults :)

Edit: I think i found the toyota part numbers for the plugs:

Plug (female) 90980-10796

Wiring (for the female) 82998-12330

Bottom two single connectors (male) 90980-10797

Wiring (for the male) 82998-12340

Just check with your parts supplier but i think thats right.

- what length SMD's did you order for the front and back?

- any pictures of where you mounted the rear lights under the seats?

Any help would be great... all i need now is to figure out what colour to get...

I used 5050 SMD's, 30cm in length. See link to ebay store at the start of the thread. :)

Ill try to get a pic of the rear positioning, bit hard but ill see what i can do. Basically its the flap of material thats under the seat.

As for colour, they are pretty cheap, just get 4 of each colour and try em out. Be warned, the blue is very bright :o

Or you can custom blend you colours. Simply run one of these in line before your first SMD strip.

SMD RGB CONTROLLER You will need to run RGB SMD stips, and change up to a 4 wire extention for the rear. To control these you need to run the 4 pin plugs. If you look around ebay you will find the RGB SMD strips with the controller or separate. Im sure you will find a colour you like :)

Hey hey :) If your good stripping wires and soldering, just do that. Or, just pop into an auto electrician and get them to splice/solder in to the wires, it would only cost you maybe 20 bucks for their time tops. Then you can runt the rest of them yourself, easy as. If you worried and want to spend an extra 40-50 bucks to make the extension loom, do so. The extension loom is hand, especially if you would like to remove or add more bits to the door light system (ie my illuminated emblem).

The plugs can only be ordered from JAPAN, sorry. Should arrive at your local Toyota spare parts in around 2-3 weeks, sometimes earlier. When i checked, there was one connector in melb, but not the other half! You also nee to buy the wires as i have shown.

Yep thats the correct way to run them. You can use speaker wire if you like, thats prob the easiest way to do it.

Just printed off your guide and currently reading through it like a textbook! probably going to go Autobarn later, any wire as long as it's 12v is okay, correct?

Sure, you can use the battery to test, they run on 12v so thats no probelm. If they dont light up just change the polarity. I tested em before i sent them off to you.

Just quick question. Will the controller remember its previous state? I set the color to the blue and switch the car off. Next time I start the car will the light come on automatically and remain white.

I asked seller and he confirmed that the controller will remember the last LED state and will start automatically. Ordered one yesterday. Will post back when it arrives.

Cool thanks. I just noticed that the IR receiver is on an extension. Thats great, you should be able to mount the box and receiver somewhere up under your dash and have the receiver poking thru somewhere for easy line-of-sight pickup. Very interested to see how this will go.

PS, i recommend getting some extra 4 pin connectors. If you are soldering or using extension wires, these pins are so easy to bend, and once bent they almost brake everytime you try to straighten them. Ive had Toyota service break 2 already and never even say anything about it.... typical.

THIS is the one I ordered. I'm looking for kind of cables with clip on the end. It should clip on the end of LED strip where are contact points are.

Pretty much the same thing, the white connector you see with the kit plugs into the pin connector which in turn plug to the female connector on the strip. Did you order 4X30cm strips or 5 continual meters? Cause 5m is enough to do 3-4 cars easy. You will have to cut the strip at the marked point, use a sharp hobby knife to remove some of the silicone/urethane clear cover then either solder the pin connector to the strip or your 4 wires. Continue this thru till you get to the back seat. If you purchased 4X30cm strips, they would come terminated with female terminal at both ends normally.

Or get these if you want to make it easier to remove...
