Hi All,

Just had a quick question about driving straight after starting your car in the morning, especially in winter. Some (most actually!) mornings I am late for work and usually startup and drive off without giving the engine time to warm up. I usually take it easy until the temp bar has moved quarter way but notice that gear shifts take longer at higher revs while cold.

Does this damage your engine and should you let the engine idle first before driving off??

Cheers!

Toyota recommends not idling the car to warm it up, just take it easy, it's fine.

When i start my Aurion it's about 1.5k RPM. I leave it idling to about 1.1k which is about 30ish seconds then i drive.

If you hear the loudless of the engine drop after starting the car then it's fine to drive.

+2, idling to warm (also just excessive idling even when warm) causes excessive build up on the spark plugs due to incomplete combustion of the fuel

i drive mine after around 10 to 20 seconds from cold start

" Incomplete combustion ".

Where in the manual does it say that the Aurion with all the smarts packed into it that it does not not know how to burn fuel correctly?

If so at what temperature, rev range etc does it fully burn all the fuel? This should be good for a laugh.

There is no need to idle the car before driving it at first start or when cold.

Just like anything I would warm up the car. Can you imagine as soon as your alarm clock rings and you jump out with 2 seconds. Your not going to feel good from that.

At the most do it for 30 seconds. An extra 30 seconds won't matter that much if you are already running late.
