Gas conversion Hilux 1992

Hi

I have a Toyota Hilux 1992 and im looking to get a gas conversion on it, because the carburetor is stuffed and needs replacing. I was told a reconditioned carby is about $600, which is why i was thinking i should use that money on getting the Hilux converted.

But when i called around for a quote i was told that a gas conversion on an older car such as mine is a bad idea. Because of the damage it will cause to the valve seals and i'll have to overhaul the head in a very short time.

If anybody has any advice or has converted an older car to gas and had problems with it your feedback would be much appreciated.

Hi, I am interested on what happens, I too have an old petrol Hilux, mines a 1.8 though. I have looked into it and found that basically there are 2 types of LPG - Mixer type and injected type. I've been told by a local mechanic and a carby motor can only have the mixer type which is not worth it as the fuel consumption goes up and power goes down. the only saving is purely based on the price difference between petrol and LPG. These systems are cheap to install but can become more trouble than they are worth.

My 1.8 is burning 12-15 Lt/100Km and this is starting to cost too much to run.
