What is the purpose of this?

hey guys ive been wondering to what the purpose of this was and if it was possible to weld a pipe to join both sides and make a strut bar of sorts?

That is a top mount for the struts, which is poorly bolted to the front sill/end. No, i wouldnt recommend welding anything to it either, just buy a strut brace to replace the whole thing, which, also bolts to the front sill.

If you have exceptional welding skills and metalwork then yeah. If not, feel the pain and order one like i did.

pretty sure i can knock 1 up with some balsa wood! lol!**** this is exactly why i still havent messed too much around the engine bay.. do it right the first time with the best gear when you got the cash to spend. dont waste $$$ on home made performance stuff.

****edit - i laugh, but in the past im guilty of thinking I can mod 1 up a home made strutbar as well..
