Snapped lug nut

Recommended Posts

So i was putting my lug nuts back on (Project kics), and one of them snapped off!!!! Didnt use a rattle gun or anything and it just sort of shredded apart :S

Anyone got any tips to remove a snapped lug nut when its on the car? Dont exactly want to damage the rim as well!

ANY help would be appreciated! Thanks!

ahhh are they tapered ends or are the nuts we are seeing undone? if they are tapered on the end and dont go into the inside of the rim like the sportivo corolla style ones it looks like they dont have enough stud to grab which would cause the nut to snap seein as when you are doing it up it doesnt have enough thread inside it to stand the tensioning torque

Garbage wheel nuts...

Use a pin punch and a hammer to try and undo what's left of the nut, worst case drill out the wheel stud and replace it. When it's done get some proper steel wheel nuts.

What he said, looks like the wrong nuts for the job.

Hey not sure how much room you have or if you have got it off yet but, have you tried welding something to the broken bit and use that to remove the nut? Maybe weld on a standard nut to the broken edge? Gotta be careful you dont weld to the wheel stud itself. Its hard to see the room you have to play with from the pic.

Oh nice rims!!
