Quartz glass coating

I only just stumbled upon this,from what i've briefly read it's pretty popular in Japan and costs around $1000AUD...

I had a Japanese link with progress pics but can't get it now sorry..

This has certainly got me interested. If it lives up to it's description, that would be one hell of a protective coating.

Looks great but I can't really justify that kind of price for coating a Corolla. I don't think the Modesta is much better than the regular synthetic paint sealant. The Ark Barrier and Quartz on the other hand, are too expensive, even with a 3 year warranty.

Maybe if I had a special car that I only drive in the weekend, or if I join those detailing competitions. For a workhorse that travels 10,000km in 3 months, I think I'll stick with my cheapo Duragloss.

Here's a thought... Since it's liquid glass, maybe you can add a glass sealant on top of it, like RainX or Nanolex. lol

I guess some people value their car differently. When you consider the amount some people spend to detail their car, if the quartz coating does in fact have it's benefits, then $1000 is actually good value. I know it would be good value for me... considering I have paid $150 before for a wash, wax, and interior clean... and I'd consider paying for that once a month in addition to my normal washing routine.

Here's a thought... Since it's liquid glass, maybe you can add a glass sealant on top of it, like RainX or Nanolex. lol

Can I use the Windshield water repellent on the glass coated surface?

No, you can’t. The coated surface becomes rigid glass but not exactly the same as with the windshield. Please use our water repellent if you want a water repellent effect on your car.

Isn't that a bit like how Toyota wouldn't recommend using any type of product except theirs? Kinda obvious by the way they use that USA made Glare Infinity product on top of a specialised Japanese product to finish it off. Either way, I wasn't really serious about adding a glass sealant anyway.

You're absolutely right about how people value their cars. For me, my Corolla Ascent is a workhorse, it has no sentimental value nor is it a highly desireable car in the motoring world. I still want to protect it well but only to help me get a good price when it's time to sell. I don't think this glass coating is gonna help with the car's resale value though, if I tell a potential buyer that I spent a grand on the paint sealant, he'd probably just think I'm trying to rip him off.

There's also the insurance issue. That much money means it's gonna increase the premium just like any car mods. All it takes is a little fender bender or a drunk mofo on a Saturday night to ruin it, and if you don't insure it, that's a grand down the drain.

Maybe if it can prevent a chip from the random rocks that occasionally get thrown your way when you're driving. That makes me wonder... if a chip causes the coat to start peeling, is it gonna be covered by the warranty? I have a feeling it's not.

If you actually DO pay $150 monthly to detail your car then by all means, get this glass coating, it's definitely a great deal for you. I think I'll stick with the regular yearly paint sealant.

A few of the boys have used CQuartz and highly recommend it. It is pricy but though but definitely worth it esp to protect a set of expensive rims.
