I am planning on spending some time in outback and in the Gulf Country of North Queensland. I will be towing a Jayco camper trailer and with the Rav's 60 litre fuel tank I have concerns relating to some of the distances that I expect between fuel stops. The vehicle was bought new in Dec 2011 and all I can get at the moment is a rough fuel usage around the city.

I have made enquiries regarding long range tanks or auxilliary tanks with no success. I am not keen on carrying jerry cans inside the vehicle and I don't have any knowledge of any restrictions on installing some on the drawbar of the van.

Is anyone able to help with any advice?

I had your concerns, but a recent trip Gladstone - Emerald Clermont Charters Towers Mt Garnet Innisfail Tully and back down the Bruce Highway calmed any such fears.

Average consumption pulling a Jayco expanda was 15 l / 100km.

At 60 l that's a range of 400km.

Towed at 90 - 100km and used the lockup in top gear as a guide to best speed.

Nowhere were the gas stations more than 200k apart.
