Hey everyone,

I'm ready to purchase a new car. I have been driving my 2003 Toyota Echo since, well, 2003! It is still going well but it is about to hit 200 000km, so I figure it's time to think about up-grading. I am certain the Toyota experts in here might be able to help me decide between a Yaris, Prius C or a Corolla, plus which model would be best.

I drive more than 800km per week. Mainly freeway driving, commuting to and from work, so fuel economy is very important to me.

I prefer a smaller car, like my Echo sedan, but have found it perfectly large enough to transport myself and my baby and all her gear, but I do need a car that can fit a pram in the boot, with a little shopping around it. I have had no issues with my Echo and I think the Yaris is a great size for this also. I'm not sure about the Prius C.

I'd like to have a little luxury in the car. I spend so much time driving that I'd like a few nice little extras like bluetooth, cruise control (I had it installed in my Echo after sale and it was brilliant for my long drive to work).

As for the Corolla, we also have a 2010 Corolla Sedan. It is a great car, but it is less fuel efficient than both the Yaris and the Prius C. It is nice and roomy though, and I was thinking the hatch might be a nice option for me to zip around in.

Which car do you think would best suit my needs! TIA

My first choice would be Corolla hatch due to the fact that it has more power, better comfort and more space compared to the other two. Second choce would be the Yaris :)

My choice would be the Corolla Hatch. This is how I see it: once you buy the car, you will be stuck with the space, comfort, power, luxury and practicality of your chosen car for a long period (which I think the Corolla is the overall winner here). Meanwhile, petrol use is inevitable, either way you will still have to pay for petrol, no real winners here.

Hi Naomi, I actually work for Toyota and i think you’d actually be nuts to go past the new Prius C. It will be available in two spec (just like "normal" Prius) and in terms of actually standard spec and features it rips Yaris YRS/YRX and Corolla Ascent (basing Corolla model off its price point) a whole new one! Looks are perspective of course but Prius C in my opinion is sportier and more engaging drive. It’s really quite a surprising compact car full of fruit and fun to look at and drive. Great fuel economy, power/performance, running costs and like Yaris and Corolla comes with the 130.00 capped price service. I would defiantly suggest if you can hang off till it’s launched to have a test drive before you make your decision would be worthwhile. Yes your paying corolla money for a Yaris sized car but the packaging of this car is unheard of at such a low price point. I truly think Toyota is onto a winner with this little baby!

Thanks for the responses. I am going to wait for the Prius C to come out and then drive all three cars before making my final decision. It's a fun dilemma, really!

Ah, so you are the one to buy the first Prius c from Maitland Toyota. Apparently I'm the second. I've had mine almost 2 weeks and happy so far. First Toyota I've owned in 40+ years of driving and I'm expecting it to be my last new car ever, so I'm banking on the Toyota's reputation for reliability.
