hello everyone,

great to find the forum and hopefully some great advice. I have recently bought a 1994 2.8D hilux twin cab . Runs great and use it to get to and from site. Recently it has developed a rather alarming leak from the diesel pump and it needs to be repaired more or less immediately. I have had a good look at it today to see if I could do anything about it. I have also taken it to a diesel specialist and they estimate that it could cost up to $2500 which was quite a shock to say the least. I am based in Fairfield in sydneys west and I need a good diesel mechanic that a few people could recommend to do the job??

all thoughts welcome

thanks.

Mate, hate to say it but that price isn't actually too bad, the stuff I generally work on can cost up to and beyond $5000 to repair/rebuild a pump. New ones range from $10,000 up. If you want to get away fairly cheaply it may be worthwhile looking for one off a wrecked vehicle. If you really want to get it rebuilt shoot these guys a message as well, ideally you need somone than has a pump room.

Hi mate,

The price doesn't sound too bad..... be interesting to know what the quote includes.

WestEnd diesel at Wetherill Park would be worth a try.... Any pre-1995 Hilux is likely to develop massive leaks as the seals harder over time, and the modern low-sulphur diesel adds to the problem. It might be worth having the injectors cleaned/refurbished at the same time. WestEnd did the pump and injectors out of my 1988 2L 2.4 Diesel LN65 Hilux, the pump was an exchange unit and the injectors refurbished. I fitted it myself, cost about $1800 all up (four years ago). Whacked on a new filter and she ran like a charm, and fuel use was dramatically reduced.

hi luke

thanks for the info. The quote includes strip down to pull out pump refurbishing my pump and re installing the pump. I was recommended to do the injectors as well and re do the "whole fuel system". Im tempted to do this...to keep her running properly. Its interesting your comment on better fuel economy as I already get 600km round town out of a tank which is brilliant.Better is welcome of course. Incidently is the pump pull/install out a bugger of a job? Im up for it to save some cash better in my pocket then a grease monkeys :-) all respects of course.

cheers
