Hey all,

Long time reader first time poster..

I own a 2003 corolla sportivo

Lightly modded, full cold Air, full exhaust 4-2-1 extractors (the blue ones?) with a varex twin pipe end.

ever since I've owned the car I've never been able to 'slam' or quick shift as they say into gears, it just wouldn't let me go from first to 2nd in lift real quick, other days it would crunch..

So I've been granny shifting and babying it for a long time and now I'm over it!

Sooooooo, I went to my mechanic to see what he can fix up..

Thought what better thing to do then to make a blog about it incase someone had the same problem!

1 - I'm running stock clutch, never been touched or played with (167xxx on the engine)

2 - my 3rd gear synchro is gone on its way, 3rd gear is crunching bad

3 - my 2nd gear synchro is on its way, not crunching.. but stiff

4 - I'm running stock Toyota box oil.

So as I said I took it to my mechanic (BillTech Automotive)

My gearbox came out, sent it away yesterday (31st October) to get 2nd and 3rd synchros done,

While that's being done, I'm getting a exedy heavy duty pinky put in,

Going to purchase nulon 75W-90 smooth shift gear oil with a G70 additive.

Can't wait to get it back, Never driven my own car at its best! Would love to know what it's like.

Will be sure to keep you guys posted for end result.

Ok first your not the first to blog this thing

It's been talked about many many times before and been resolved

You will find the problem is your clutch isn't disengaging, I personally wouldn't of done syncros cause it wouldnt of even been that, people here have done syncros and still crunches

It's the clutch, and push rod clutch adjustment, with new gearbox oil does the trick, also new shift cables has worked before I've read somewhere.

How much do you have to bend over and pay for that...??

Can't be just the clutch, my 3rd gear actually had trouble getting into, you could yell it was actually the synchro worn out.. Really depressing call today when the gearbox place called and said my actually 2nd gear hub and synchro is gone :-(

Gonna run me a fair bit!!

Could you send a link to the blog? I would like to view it as it sounds very informative.

Thanks.

So my cars back on the road,

Took a 50/50 chance and bought a 2nd hand 04 gearbox to put in as Toyota was out of stock for 2nd gear parts for 4 weeks and up! I couldn't wait..

Gearbox bolted straight on.. Clutch was done, added nulon 75W-90 smooth shift oil with a Nulon g70 additive..

And BAM! I was slamming gears like new! Taking it down to the track to run 1/4m next Wednesday.. Hoping to get high 14's low 15's

make sure u bed in the clutch for 1000km. assuming it's s a new one. Don't be stupid and chuck wheelies everywhere. otherwise ud be up for a new one very soon. And probably a good thing u got a 2nd box too as if u r replacing hears u have to drive it soft for at least 1000km to bed them in before driving it hard again.

Would you know a good mechanic in the Sydney area that can re-adjust the push rod clutch & replace gearbox oil?
