Hi Donald, Kinda hard to hear it on the video but I think my engine sounds the same. I've always noticed a squeak to my car at idle since I bought it around 12 months ago. Had it serviced in August and the mechanic didn't think it was anything to worry about. I figured that it was just how these engines sounded. Interested to hear other peoples thoughts though.

It sound like bird chirping . Sound can be heard inside the car as well does not used to have it.

My mates SX6 has the exact same noise. Let us know how you go at finding what it is

Ok guys Back from toyota.

The noise is coming from the alternator pulley bearing.

The foreman ask me to change the alternator as well since is under warranty

Today Damage :

Alternator : $1.2k (Cover by warranty)

Drive Belt : $160

Cap Service :$195

Injector Servicing : $90

Ouch that isn't cheap by any means, thankfully the Alt is covered under warranty though.

Are you going to go ahead with the repair?

Posted

Yeah repair is on going now.

Will be getting back my car tomorrow

Holy s**t!!! That's a lotta dough. How is it covered under warranty? My car is only 12 months older than yours. Was it a recall issue?

I bought 2nd hand from southisde toyota and was entitled a mechanical protection plan.(2nd hand car warranty)

probably would have lasted years like that

A quick way of testing if it's only the belt and not any pulleys or bearings is to get a candle and let it be ground into the belt on the ridged side. This will provide a small amount of a lubricating effect (Not to the point of letting it slip) which would show if it's the belt at fault (by stopping the noise) or if it's a bearing somewhere (noise continues).

Bit of good reading on http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=1026&location_id=540

I'm currently suffering from a very brutal scream at the moment, and with the weather being as lousy as it is in Perth at the moment I can't really get in and see if everything is straight. The candle wax trick did silence mine, for a short amount of time.
