Hi guys,

I am looking to get a 2007/2008 GSU40 2wd Kluger in near future. I am aware that Kluger is famous for its wallow/boaty ride and I want to change it as much as I can. Has anyone done any upgrade in suspension setup/wheel to sharpen the handling of the car?

The plan in my mind so far is:

- Super low type stiff spring - would not mind dropping car a bit as it will be running on bitumen hence it is 2wd

- Compliant quality shock for the above spring

- At least 20 inch wheel with low profile quality rubber

- Rear 19/20mm sway bar

All above is gonna be DIY upgrade, so it would be good to know what item and where to source it from.

I want to make it look something like this.

For the style of the vehicle I would not say the handling is too bad, there are a lot that are far worse. They like to have a lot of pressure in the tyres though.
By stiffening up the suspension be sure that you are not removing one problem and creating another?
Have you looked through the US Toyota Nation site... over there they are called Highlander.
Being a Camry chassis some mods from them might work?

Hi KXR thanks for the response. I am not sure what you mean by "creating another problem". But you reckon camry mods might fit klugers? I have been to toyota nation and unable to see anyone there pimped their ride nicely. I guess it is a sort of soccer mum type of ride so no one bothered to mod it.

Engine based stuff may. Most other things will not.

Let us know how you go , i think a a mean machine kluger would look really cool :P

By stiffening the suspension you may shake the car to bits... ??
Kluger is not really the right vehicle for hooning.. :-(
Such modding costs $ but also greatly reduces the value of the vehicle.

All the stuff you mention will help with the handling department, I wouldnt want to go 20's as your ride will be less compliant not to mention depending on the set of aftermarket rims you might dent it on potholes, I've done that twice with my old matey Yaris. I would rather go 19's or even 18s with 'wider' set of tires for improve grip.

This aligns well with your suspension mods.

On a quick note, you will want some good quality rubbers to go with your mods. I've drove my old man's Kluger on Maxxis rubber and I can honestly tell you they are rubbish.
