Hi Guys/Girls,

I have noticed, by accident, the Thermo fans on the Aurion can be forced on by turning the key half way between acc and ignition/on.

The reason I found this is I was turning it back to acc and was in a rush so when doing so it didn't go back to the acc position just stayed half way, as I was walking away the fans cam on and I kinda stopped and stared, was thinking to myself, this is odd, they don't usually come on after the cars off.

My question is,

Is this normal? Is it something Toyota have done on purpose?

Or is it just unintentionally there?

And can it do damage?

Completely normal :). My Aurion does the same thing, and so has every other Toyota I've owned/driven, even the early 90's models. Usually if you're sitting stationary with the engine off after driving and have the key sitting in the 'ON' position the fans will kick in after a short period of time as heat-soak from the engine causes the radiator core to get hot enough and tell the sensor to turn the fans on. It won't do this when the ignition is switched off or onto 'ACC' though of course.

Hey Full Throttle, yeah if the key was set to ignition/on then I would expect it because that system would be active and realise it's getting hot. But should it still do it if the key is half way? And every time?

I can go out to the car at any time, in any weather, regardless of if its hot or not and if I put the key half way then the fans come on.

Sorry just want to make sure we are on the same one is all.

I appreciate your response:)

I've never had my key in the half way position before , but the ignition only knows if it's either 'OFF', 'ACC' or 'ON', so I'd say the car thought it was more in the 'ON' position than the 'ACC' position, if that makes sense.

Yeah I didn't do it on purpose but found it and yeah, hence my question haha

It is probably bridging or arcing across the switch. I would test on ours, however it has the smart start, which eliminates any chance of that happening.

Yeah I was thinking something along those lines.

Thanks guys
