Hey guys I have a loud squeak/rattle noise that starts as I hit about 2000rpm and gets louder as the revs go up. The noise will only happen when I am accelerating and it completely goes away when I back off. It sounds like it's coming from the cluster but I'm not exactly sure. Need help asap because it is driving me nuts.

Mechanical speedo cable making the noise maybe? The cluster should be fairly simple to remove, with it out of the car see if the noise is still happening or not.

Or is it more like a static noise you can get in speakers?

A video uploaded to Youtube and linked here, can often help with diagnosis.

It's not coming from the speakers. Pretty sure it's the cable. If it is what can I do to stop the noise?

I don't think that you can really lubricate the cable so you might be better off getting it replaced if that is what it is.

Have you removed the cluster to eliminate that?

You could possible try a small amount of graphite powder or another form of dry lube.

bearing failure in instrument cluster. just get another used one-you'll never justify a new one, if you could find one.
