looking at getting a dual exhaust on my 2.5ltr Altise will this improve the performance of the car or will it be just for looks as Toyota puts them on the Atara's.

Pretty much looks only, possibly a sound difference.

The front pipe is exactly the same part number, so the restriction remains the same.

Speaking  as a Toyota tech, 100% for looks only. If you go for an aftermarket system or remove some of the mufflers for the OEM system it may be a bit louder  (although I dunno why you'd  want that, it'd  just sound *******...)

I see Mr. Toyota shows different kw and nm specs for the base model Altise with single exhaust versus all the other variants with dual exhausts. Altise has 133KW & 231Nm where all the others have 135KW & 235NM. All models show the same fuel useage.  So yes performance will be increased but only a small amount. Only you can decide if the cost to add the second pipes / muffler/ brackets will be worth it.

Take it with a grain of salt.

If it is actually true, you will not notice this. These are flywhewl figures, so once you factor in the percentage of drivetrain loss and the extra weight from the extra muffler  you will gain nothing.
